A little more unusual for people far our in Japan to be adopting SoCal culture but to each their own. Maybe some Jap dude grew up in SoCal decided to bring the culture back home.

Japan actually embraces a lot of the American culture, esp the Chicano lowrider movement. It's kind of sad b/c they are becoming more "Westernized" and losing a lot of their roots.

Andrew, I knew you were from SD but not SouthSide! I'm from the Chula Vista area.

That's true. Same is going on with a lot of other asian cultures. I was in a very rural/ urban (developing) area of southern China back in January. The area is filled with nightclubs, bars, shopping centers etc. A lot of young girls hanging out now, barely dressed. STDs are spreading like wildfire in southern China (not joking, it's actually really bad there now). The traditional values no longer exist with these young people growing up in the rural cities. It's like the American 90s going on over there right now.
Most of these places are adopting westernized pop culture.
