8. Next, we’ll remove the muffler from the car. The muffler is held on by two (2) 14mm bolts and four (4) rubber hangers, one on each corner of the muffler. Start by removing the bolts and then remove the muffler from its hangers, one at a time. I find that twisting the rubber hanger off of the muffler is the best way to get it started. Be ready when you’ve got it loose, as the muffler is a bit heavy.

Quick question about the muffler connection to the midpipe. Is there supposed to be a gasket between the two? I'm reverting to stock, and didn't install the replacement exhaust myself, so I don't know how it was originally setup. If there's not supposed to be a gasket, isn't leaking a concern?

Yes, there is a gasket that goes in there.

Get some Grade 5 or 8 machine bolts from Lowes or Fastenal. I had to hacksaw mine apart when I put the Nameless muffled track pipe on because the stock bolts rusted so much.

This DIY was super-helpful for me last week when I installed a new header. Thanks a bunch!

quick question on aftermarket overpipe

any possibility of re-using the factory heat sheilds on an aftermarket overpipe?

seems like there would be some heat on the aftermarket overpipe to try to mitigate but maybe its larger size makes this impossible?

thanks in advance

No, they're quite specific to the bends and bobs of the stock piece. Most aftermarket parts are also larger diameter.

If you're concerned about heat, a ceramic coating would be your best alternative.

This all makes sense that those heat shields can't be Re used but what performance could be sacrificed by presenting a source of heat with a bigger overpipe. From what I have seen there isn't much gains in an overpipe swap, the big win is in the header. Could the be any truth to having best performance with stock overpipe and heat shield with after market header to prevent heat leaching that would be presented from an aftermarket overpipe?

Just asking for discussion and experience here
