quick question... it seems my tensioner bolt is loose... how do you re-tighten it. Apologize if this is stupid question.

I have the car in sixth and the pulley is not quite locked in place. It turns quite a bit and its scaring me how much if any play should it have? I've put a bit of force on it so far and nothing...

Before or after install? Approximately how much of a full turn? If you are getting 1/4 turn then it is probably just how everything stopped as fars as gears and engine internals go. Push the clutch in and roll the car forward a bit and let the clutch out to stop it. Then see how much movement you get.

Thanks I got it. I was about to give up because the socket slipped and was going to strip and I was frustrated. I tried one more time and it came off. Top speed pulleys installed!
Thanks

It can take a decent length breaker bar at times, it took me a bit to get mine free. Hope you were using a 6 point socket, 12 point sockets like to eat bolt heads.

I had a breaker but it scared me. It was a makeshift bar. I made it from cheap ass Walmart lamp haha. Half if it slipped off so I have up on the breaker. The ratchet was pretty big on its own. And it was 12 point it was all I had . I got it though. Easy install!

This is a little OBE and OT but I wanted to highlight this because I missed it the first time you posted it.

Absolutely correct. That's why I took the spare, toolkit, and stock muffler off. Before I passed the first month with my car. The pulley was a further optimization on the front end. Where things are a lot harder and more expensive to make lighter. I wish I could figure out how folks have gotten the DI covers off. Those things weigh a couple pounds each but they're both obstructed. Granted, I was fiddling with them when it was 20 degrees F out and now that it's warmer I might be able to get them done.

Get a six point set and a real breaker bar. I used a 24 inch breaker bar and it came right off, but I'm not a small person. I braced against my STB with my left hand and pulled with my right. Drivetrain gave slightly and then pop. Never use a torque wrench to loosen things, and try not to use a ratchet - you'll mess up the calibration of the torque wrench and you'll potentially screw up the ratcheting mechanism (it'd be not unlike rounding off a bolt head).

There was a thread on here where someone removed the DI fuel rail shields.

MANY people (including myself) advised against that.
With those shields removed it would only take a minor accident to have >1500 PSI fuel spraying around the hot engine bay.

Yeah, I know. It's about risk acceptance. There are a couple threads where it's mentioned and pics of them having been removed, but none actually documenting how it was done. @Anthony had the best detail but I must be missing something.

Are you the one who asked me about it a while back?

crank pulley bolt removal tip

i saw this [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G-adEVjfWI"]video[/ame] on youtube for a cheeky tip to get the crank pulley bolt off by starting the engine while having a breaker bar not the bolt and wedged someone it won't move.
I don't know if this is much use or even a wise thing to do but i thought ill post it anyway.
