Without testing air flow I would say not likely. And not likely enough to spend any serious money on it. Depends on how far back it goes, if you can get it to cover the muffler and cross member, maybe.
Just go to the guys who track their car, are they having problems with aero? Not that I have heard.

This is not correct.

Without the stock muffler you have a bumper that acts like a big parachute trapping air back there. This eliminates that problem if you are using a muffler delete or are using a different muffler set up. That was my primary motivation. Several people with muffler deletes were reporting unsettling rear end lift at high speed on the track. They were putting their stock mufflers back on. CSGmike is one of them. I can't remember who the others were.

See thread:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...k+muffler+aero

My diffuser set up goes all the way to the cross member sealing off that space.

I am currently working on the underbody panels to create a nice flat surface underneath like the elise/exige/TRD griffon. Won't be done anytime soon though as I am taking my time.

In your case you are just fixing the problem with removing the factory exhaust which was there and designed to as you said prevent parachuting not to create down force.

Yours clearly goes a step further and your work is excellent of course. But it was designed around the Elise/Exige underside, not the FR-S. Creating down force in the rear is all dependent on how air gets to those channels. In in your case, air is not reaching those vanes smoothly. Its basically an appearance piece.

I went through discussions about this when I had my Exige, about which diffusers on that car actually did anything and that was a car that was designed around it.

Looks great. I too have been thinking about doing this for a time attack. What did you use for the beauty rings? I was thinking of building one from scratch however it looks like the difflow fits really well on the back of the frs. Great work

If I have accomplished both those goals then it is a win to me.

I will point you to my original post:

It is a hair quieter than my Muffler delete I had before this and should be a good start to remedy any rear end lift on high speed sweepers that I was getting with my muffler delete.
If, after I am done with the underbody panels, I create some down force with this diffuser then it is a double win. My only gauge of such a thing would be seat-of-the pants on the road course as I don't own a wind tunnel (wish I did lol) and I am no engineer.

I am happy. I am not here to debate and argue aerodynamics, so please use this link which is a much more appropriate venue to discuss such things:

Good to meet you and your car in person. Way to go for driving down from Norcal! We'll definitely try to have the Vegas boys come out to one of your events out there in the Bay Area! BTW, what did you do for reverse lights? I don't know if it was ever asked.
