I'm going with a 200tw next time too. I've outgrown the PSS for autoX purposes. I'd love to get a 245/255 200tw set on 8.5-9" wheels just for track and autoX but I am not sure i have the funds to make that happen next spring, as my winter tires need replacing as well. We'll see.

I have to throw another nod at BFGoodrich gForce Sport Comp 2 A/S (225/45r17). My FRS is DD and I live in North GA where it's fairly hilly. I chose these tires amongst PSS and Continental DW where wet performance was weighted very heavily. I've had them for about 6k miles and the wet performance is unreal, super stable, great feedback, and it's fairly quiet. At the time I was looking, Pep Boys was running a sale and got a full set for $91/tire.
P.S. DO NOT get your tires installed at Pep Boys, spend the extra $ and time at a shop known for wheel and tire work. I have never curbed my stock rims, I am meticulous about upkeep, and 3/4 tires had deep gouges from their tools. Took it straight up the corporate chain and nothing was done about it. I had a set of Hankook V12 Evo's (225/45/17) for about 15-20k miles and then switched over to BFG Sport Comp 2 (240/40/17) and been riding around these tires for about 4 - 5k miles. The Sport Comp 2's feel more responsive and offered more grip but that also could be attributed to the wider tire profile as well. But what I noticed in the cold is that the Hankooks had very consistent grip when it was cold/warm/hot. Where as the Sport Comp 2's when it was cold had less grip than a set of cold Hankook V12's. But when the Sport Comp 2's were warm they offered quite a bit more grip than the Hankooks. The ride quality is definitely better on the Hankooks as well.

I think for what they are (a cheap mid 300 tw tire) they are quite decent. I may try the PSS next time, as I suspect they're better, but they also cost more. For the money they're good, but you won't be setting any blistering lap times on them. |
