Post Recall Blackstone Report
So I didn't post this in "failure" thread or "no failure thread" as I"m not sure yet.
'13 BRZ, 1800 mi. post recall work. Just received oil analysis report (attached) and could use input on the silicon level. Silicon level states "63" when the average is '26'. Here's what I don't understand; I spoke with analysis from Blackstone who said this is normal for an engine that just had this type of recall work. I explained to him that too much sealer has been linked to the cause of many engines blowing up. He hadn't heard of this but is now researching it. He also said that brand new vehicles from factory will test higher levels of silicon than mine, but it should dissipate by the next oil change. Just wanted to share this test result and hear any comments or suggestions, thank you |

It's chunks of the sealer that cause problems, not the stuff that's absorbed into the oil... which is going to be higher after a rebuild such as you get with the warranty work, just as they said. So, it doesn't really mean much at all in this context; the results should be expected given the work done. Unless there were chunks, it's not an indicator of anything (yet).

Doesn't silicon content just mean dirt that may have fallen into the engine when it was opened up?
I changed my oil 3 times in 1000 miles after recall to make sure it was clean. |

Do two quick OCI's / filter changes and do a follow up report if you've got the scratch.

Why should they pay for your paranoia? The Blackstone rep already explained to you that higher levels would be expected. They just sealed your engine with silicone that had to cure so of course there are higher levels right now. It is not an indication that your passages are blocked in any way.

@marco1ca $100 for an oil change, whew. I think I can do 3-4 oil changes at that price.
You know Mobil 1 ran a rebate this summer right? 5 quarts of Mobil 1 cost me $15 after rebate. |

Silicon is not Silicone.
Check intake filter/system and PCV system. They are not dong this recall work in a clean room and most technicians are probably not cleaning the parts prior to reassembly. |

I just can not wrap my head around the fact that this is even being discussed. Why bother to have a test done if you can't believe the report?
