Cars are viewed as an appliance now more than ever. Auto makers used to try hard to make each of their models distinct in an effort to give the car more of a 'personality'. All those little details and unique colors/stripes/badging used to be part of what attracted someone towards a particular model.

Now people are more concerned with the tech inside and treat their cars as something bland and inoffensive that gets them from point A to B comfortably and safely. Obviously car enthusiasts are the exception, but nowadays the majority of the cars I see on the road are white/black/grey sedans or CUVs and you can't really tell which brand they are until you take the time to look at the badge.

That's my experience anyways.

Could be tq vs hp. Could be the extra 300lbs on the Mustang, the front end weight distribution or the extra two gears too. This is a Cayman 981 vs 718 debate, except with different makes and models. Some will prefer the NA, high revving, higher displacement engine over the smaller turbo motor, regardless of the improvement in performance.

Also could be the gearing (FD) of the Stang. It got left at the line but ran down the Z4 and was closing fast on the Supra. The Mustang still wins the "bang for the buck" race over the Supra.

Indeed

Still would have preferred to see it against a GT350 which is closer to the target price range.

Yep. I was directing my mirth at the HP only crowd. They can't see past that one number when obviously there is far more to look at.

The 3 are so close it wouldn’t matter to anyone unless they drag race

So based on cool factor Supra wins by default. Oh wait, it can turn too!
