Got my recall letter

Hi Everyone,

i received a letter in the mail saying my VIN number was part of the recall for Automatic FRS' potentially having unconnected wires allowing the car to roll when it is not supposed to.

I was wondering if there was a consensus on the which Phoenix area Toyota dealership has the best service department. Big Two Toyota seems to be the only dealer regularly mentioned.

Thank you!

Haha that recall takes all of 3 minutes. They put the car in N and try to take the key out. If it doesn't then your done, if it does them they reach under the dash and plug something back in and your done. I would just take it to the closest one its not complicated or hard for them to do.

Actually, I wouldn't even bother taking it in unless there is an issue. Just do the test yourself, if the key comes out, either take it in or find the plug and do it yourself. If the key doesn't come out, you are good to go.

Exactly! Just get it done when you go for your next service

I got the letter in the mail and to be honest, I don't think I have the issue. It sounds like a fairly easy fix. Also, it only affects the 2013 model year.

Getting it officially through the recall process is important for resale value. Even for such a minor deal as this, if it pops up on carfax with an open recall you might scare people away.

That's not how it works the dealer has to record the vin number regardless and whether or not the vehicle is safe. They will keep contacting if the repair was never done.

Well, if you care about that type of thing. Usually by the time I sell a car the odometer scares people away more than anything on a CARFAX. The last several cars I went to sell or trade in all had between 180K and 289K miles on them.

Understood, but I wouldn't make a special trip just for that, that was really my point.

Every time I've sold a car of mine, the ad has included "bring a tow vehicle." I drive things until they literally die on me.

Some people care about selling in a couple years though. Buyers may not understand the details of the recall, and they may see you as not properly maintaining the car. They'll either lowball you on an offer or just take a hard pass.
