Gotcha. I can't say that I've had that ever happen to me before. Best of luck getting it figured out.

Is there any video of the popping sound? Every now and then I get popping from the intake when doing aggressive down shifting or letting the car do its auto blip down shift when in automatic mode.

Confirmed sofware update for injector seal failure.

It says the Root Cause:
Under certain engine operating conditions, significant increased temperature & cylinder pressure occurs due to combustion knocking.
Combustion knocking occurs only when the following conditions are met:
1. Full engine acceleration, Wide Open Throttle [ON->OFF->ON within 0.6sec] during gear shifting.
2. The above operation occurs when the engine rpm is above 5200rpm. = shifting up rapdily from 3rd to 4th, 4th to 5th, 5th to 6th from 7450 rpm. (E.g. shifting from 3rd @ 7450rpm up to 4th finishing @ 5864 rpm)

NOTE: Investigation results revealed that this condition is observed during track usage, and a unique aggresive driving style, not during normal driving.

That last part pisses me off to no end, So running the car up to the factory rev limiter and shifting gears is considered aggressive track driving... sounds like they intend on F'ing people out of the warranty repair of the seals.
It also states that it retards timing above 5200rpm, does that mean it reduces power above 5200 rpm? Accelerate slower?

No, it is transient retard, timing gets pulled when you lift off the throttle for the shift. Should not affect power at all.

I was quoted $800 (labor only) by my local Subaru dealership.
I also called Scion and was quoted $750.

Given how long it's taking Subaru to acknowledge this issue and cover it under warranty I'm probably going to have my local mechanic replace all four seals.

Save the receipt and invoice for the work; you may eventually get it back from Subaru if they have a TSB or something.

@RAWR BRZ
I was the dark blue FR-S at SOW on Sunday. You had helped my buddy take his wheels to the tire shop. Anyway, I was hit by this issue on the drive home. CEL came on for about 3-5secs...then I soon noticed the firecracker popping noise. I can replicate it pretty easily at idle. I'm curious to see how long yours takes to get the warranty work done, because I don't want to leave my car at the dealership. Please keep me posted. Thanks!

My CEL never turned on so it may also be another issue but I am not sure. I am taking it in around 12. I am sorry to hear you have the same issue. If you drive it granny style it shouldn't pop. I think every time it pops it damages the engine/remainder of the seal more. I will keep you posted.
