BTW I had a Borla UEL and when I took it off to sell the car, I did notice one bolt was pretty loose. But why only during high temperatures with A/C on?

Congrats!

Rod Knock

My turn -

Been tracking my FRS for almost 5 years, rod knock started last year.
Motor is still pulling strong! (90,000 km)

I was told by a subie mechanic that as long as it goes away just above idle, its drivable, if it knocks just above idle its not.
It seems he was right, (at least for the last year), but I'm pullin the motor this winter anyway, for a complete h/d rebuild.

Will report my findings in the spring.

Never thought I would miss feeler gauges, tappets, and back yard valve jobs.

Ya I know, oldie but a goodie.

Did you ever yank the engine? I’ve heard this a couple of times now when the engine is hot

A subie mechanic checked it out and said it was on the right side and not to worry about it.
The engine was rebuilt a few thou after with a low compression long block. When it was pulled, the mechanic said I could have gone another 100 thou if I stopped tracking it. Nothing abnormal was found, just sloppy fit worn parts.

I wasn't concerned about it at the time and never investigated further.
When warm, "rod knock " or "lifter noise" - that ticking sound, always stopped as soon as a little throttle was applied.

That’s a relief for you. I heard it at track once last year when hot and never again until last night. It was just a gentle city drive. It sounds like rod knock to me and is concerning....We shall see.

Now that i think about it, it’s funny that it happened literally right after changing from 0W-40 to 0W-20. I’ve been running 0W-40 for a year. There was 0W-20 in the first time too. Hmmm....
