BTW I had a Borla UEL and when I took it off to sell the car, I did notice one bolt was pretty loose. But why only during high temperatures with A/C on?

Rod Knock
My turn -
Been tracking my FRS for almost 5 years, rod knock started last year. Motor is still pulling strong! (90,000 km) I was told by a subie mechanic that as long as it goes away just above idle, its drivable, if it knocks just above idle its not. It seems he was right, (at least for the last year), but I'm pullin the motor this winter anyway, for a complete h/d rebuild. Will report my findings in the spring. Never thought I would miss feeler gauges, tappets, and back yard valve jobs. |

Did you ever yank the engine? I’ve heard this a couple of times now when the engine is hot |

The engine was rebuilt a few thou after with a low compression long block. When it was pulled, the mechanic said I could have gone another 100 thou if I stopped tracking it. Nothing abnormal was found, just sloppy fit worn parts. I wasn't concerned about it at the time and never investigated further. When warm, "rod knock " or "lifter noise" - that ticking sound, always stopped as soon as a little throttle was applied. Last edited by RFB; 08-24-2019 at 10:55 AM. Now that i think about it, it’s funny that it happened literally right after changing from 0W-40 to 0W-20. I’ve been running 0W-40 for a year. There was 0W-20 in the first time too. Hmmm.... |
