Great to see this project progressing. Any specs on the motor?

It's really not a powerful motor at all compared to some of the others I've tested, but the goal with this one is to build a small very controllable reliable compressor. If it works well then I my move up from there or just be happy with what I have.

I think you are on the right track with a 12V setup. This eliminates the voltage boost (or battery paralleling) charging circuit which cuts down on cost and complexity.

My goals would be to fill the torque hole in the curve between 3200 and 4500rpm, add a bit to the curve below 2500rpm and not be restrictive on the top end, all while being speed proportional. I think a 12V low power setup would accommodate all those goals.

Hey, welcome back, @neutron256. What are the inducer and exducer diameters?

BTW, I miss this place.

48.5mm and 64mm. It's one of the smallest I could find.

I wonder if Kia also uses the 48v for the electric supercharger:

If you read the link, it says the supercharger is 48V.

Have you checked out lead carbon batteries?

Looks pretty promising.

I've been keeping an eye on this thread and I'm also interested whether there's anything new.

This whole thing kinda reminds me of the early pc water cooling days over 10 years ago. I went through a bunch of different water blocks, thermal dynamics, heat exchangers, experimented with peltier cooling with giant heatsinks. I never went extreme sub-zero/cryo but tinkering's fun. So to me, tinkering with the air intake at low compression is fun, but doing a whole exhaust turbo setup is a lot more time, money and complexity than I want to take on.

Although most people might not recognize this but electric superchargers like this are going to be the future in bolt on mods. Why bolt on an CAI when you can bolt this on and get real measurable results. The best part is that it can be taken off easily for emissions testing etc.

This is gonna explode in the next few years and become mainstream, good to see people interested in being early adopters.

Don't know about state of this project, too lazy to read through whole 50+ pages, but pitty that Phantom ESC died. It was at completely usable level, most bugs/problems ironed out, set back only by long production time / long customer waitlist / and unfortunately as it looks now - end of project . If only it would have been mass produced, or at least if guy behind it passed nfo/schematics/parts choice and such to some shop to keep making those kits instead of ending it all :/

Not really much to update. I had a working prototype of the hardware, it did produce low to moderate boost. I was working on the controller to tie it into the throttle position sensor, but life got busy. Got married, step kids, needed a more practical car so I sold my BRZ.

I’m now driving a Volvo C30 (factory turbo) so really not something I can/want to persue at this point.

I did do a little more research and I think the way to go on this is to use a geared/belt driven system to get higher RPM in the compressor then is possible directly driving it off of the electric motor. Rotrex actually now makes a hybrid supercharger that is designed to either be just driven off an electric motor, or to be spoiled up quickly with an electric motor then at higher engine RPM belt driven. Unfortunately the see this as an OEM type part to be combined with a hybrid/KERS style system and don’t offer and option for turners and hackers like myself to purchase it.
