i learned using the handbrake and can fluidly get the thing moving in traffic on a hill.
however since becoming more familiar with this platform, a slight blip of the throttle to preload the rpms before beginning left the clutch out, getting off the brake onto more throttle input and even more clutch coming out. in a rather smooth motion. the pedal cover helps with the blips when H/T. |

The number of people trying to learn how to drive a standard through the Internet is mind boggling. Go practice, FFS...
You should know HOW to perform a hill start with an e-brake in case you ever need to (the only time I've needed is when driving a vehicle in poor running condition); otherwise, proper clutch technique will not require the e-brake be used under normal circumstances. Certainly not needed with this car, that's for sure. |

I use the handbrake all the time. On a hill, no hill, downhill, and put the car into gear and release as I start moving to avoid any noob rolling forwards or backwards. If you use your clutch on a hill while reving the engine or just using your brake you'll shorten the life of your clutch and may accidentally roll back onto the car behind you. Thats just me though. Ive been driving manuals all my life.

40 years. Why? Because I said hand brake? I cant help but lol at the guys saying e brake, dont use it on hills, only use it for parking. Seriously? Its obvious you come from an "auto" back ground and maybe this is your first stick shift?

Have you ever read one of my posts? It was simply a question since you said "all my life." What would make you think this is my first manual? |

And it is obvious that many of us have never used it for starting on hills even with extensive standard transmission use.

My grandmother drove a car for 75+ years of her life and never got into an accident. Doesn't mean she was a good driver.
