Belt snapped! on freeway!!

Yes people, you heard correct, the belt snapped!!

I was getting onto the on-ramp to the freeway (tight right hand turn type). NO crazy driving or anything, right in the middle of the turn I heard the snap. A first it sound like i ran over something metal and it hit the underside of the car. Battery light came on, temp gauge pegged on hot and CEL came on so the next exit I pulled over.

Sure as shit, popped the hood and the belt was shredded!!!!! Oh and this was about midnight as I was getting off at work. Towed to the dealership and now just waiting for them to figure it out.

And so now i wait....

Have you ever loosened up the belt tensioner? Like to install a crank pulley or something.

No, nothing after market, straight stock, never touched it. But...

The stealership did replace the VVT at 200 miles due to the whole CEL and stalling issue...

I'm at 8500 miles now

That was pretty much what happened. The belt was shredded.

Got it back yesterday. Stealership said it was a "defective part" They did notice the replacement part for the belt was different than the original and had no idea why. They did call Toyota who said they heard of this happening only one other time

Good thing no other problems occured due to the incident. ECU was flashed as well. Engine feels a little more "free" than before, which is nice

I hope that they don't charge you for the part or the repair. You might need to connect the dots for them with the early belt swap / ECU issue and the shredding.

Interested in this re-flash. I literally just took mine in two days ago and they didn't mention it. What dealer?
