Michelin Cup - 2016 - Round 1 - Dyno results

Interesting day out at Kya Sands!

I must compliment the organizers, it was a very impressive event! Everything went quick and smooth!

It was great making new petrolhead friends and seeing some exotic cars like the Noble M400, Supra on steroids and a host of track ready BMW’s, Audi’s and Japs.

The day started out well, posting some ‘optimistic’ results, with a few readings that suggested that the dyno was on drugs lol,
These were rectified, and the organizers applied a 10% haircut across Kw results.

By the time the 86’s got to Dyno it was already mid-day and above 32deg cel!

- @LostSalad was first up,
In his first run posted 122kw and approx. 240nm ?
(The organizers then asked him to remove his NOS, lol just kidding!)

In his second run he ran a clean impressive 129kw and 202nm!
(BRZ exhaust / 95ron fuel)

Def one of the strongest 86’s I have come across! Respect dude!

- I was up next and ran 126kw and 192nm on my first run.
(BRZ exhaust/UEL header/Overpipe/DIF/95ron tune/95ron fuel)

-Riel ended up going later on, and ran 124kw and 184nm.
(BRZ/UEL header/Overpipe/Not sure if he had a DIF/ e15mix on stock tune)

- @Don86 – did you manage to dyno?

Overall result, I ended up being ‘demoted’ to the N/A group (NA <110kw),

I was advised before the start of the Michelin Cup by Phoenix to run a stronger 95ron tune and also consider e50, but it was my choice to participate in my daily (more fuel efficient) map, which I am quite happy with, even if it makes me slow

Not sure if I am happy or sad being demoted, coz that M3 and Track e36 328i was looking dangerous in the NO class (Normally aspirated open)!

I'm happy to be in the ‘slow’ class,
Wikus from Goldwagen Daleray has built a beast of a Caddy, and looking forward to compare results of future events to him.

All the best to @LostSalad @Fish Eagle for the next event at Zwartkops!!

Good runs there!

Was a lekker event. Just took ages to get cars on and off the dyno.

I missed out the Supra's run but I hear he made 972WKW on 1.8bar of boost (car can run up to 2.5bar)

I'd love to join the track event this month but I cant commit to the date and they only accept preregistrations

From what I read, it looks like they are integrating it with the SuperTrax event (I could be wrong).

So I am assuming, entries on the day will be possible through SuperTrax, but you wouldn't have the timing devices as Michelin Cup participants do...

I am afraid it might be like December SuperTrax, with too many classes, 10min sessions and loads of traffic....IMO they should have had a separate event, to get quantity they are compromising quality...

I'm going to take these results with a serious grain of salt lol. I just don't see how it's possible short of the Subaru guys stealing my cats and selling them for cash when they fit my BRZ pipe. In any case, I'm not complaining

Speaking of classes.... why the FSCK is there a separate ladies class?? Are we back in the 50's or something? I feel like I want to be moved just to make a point.

I guess I'm going to get wrecked proper in the drag races. But I'll take an M3 on the skidpan any day

I've heard so many complaints and issues and things that are claimed to be not right, that I'm sort of glad I couldn't make it.
Colon surgery almost sounds preferable to a dyno bunfight.

Anyway, with that bullshit done and dusted, now the games begin...

Zwartkops will be difficult. It'll be merged in with the usual Supertrax, and there'll be a problem with traffic on-track, and with pitspace. Expect to find it very difficult to lay down a clean uninterrupted lap in the morning sessions, but hopefully the afternoon sessions will be better.

The challenge is to get your positioning right to go for your hot lap. Get out on track, get your car warm, and your tyres hot, and wait your opportunity. Hold back, and try to position yourself to get some free space, then go for your hot lap. Remember that you only need ONE fast lap. And when you're on your hot lap, don't give way or slow down for "faster" cars - that's their problem. Stay on the racing line, go at full speed, and force them to go around you if they can. If they can't - tough nuts.

In the Michelin Cup event last year at Red Star, I did 5 laps total. Two warmup, two hot laps which were within 0.2 sec of each other, and a cool down lap. Done and dusted. You don't need many fast'ish laps, just one killer lap, balls to the wall - that's it.

Didn't realize it would be that quick,

I havn't been to Michelin Cup track events before,

@Fish Eagle - are you saying they will give us time slots to do our laps so they can control traffic? (So you only really have 2 or 3 sessions in the day?)

Or atleast I hope they do,

Here is a good picture of Zwartkops they posted on Fbk:

If its anything like Dec Supertrax, where I had to share a under cover parking with someone else up by the GoKart track, coz there was'nt any pits left, I will be coming in to Zwartkops as soon as the sun raises!

Nope. You'll probably just mix it in with the Supertrax class that best fits you, like a normal Supertrax outing. But you'll have a transponder on your car, so every lap you do, in any session, will be timed. It's wise to take your first session fairly easy to make sure that your transponder's working properly - but they're quite reliable, and rarely malfunction, so that's not really necessary. (Unless you're an idiot, and fit it wrong way round to your car - LOL. They go on with duct tape, so take some with you, then you don't have to beg duct tape from others)

Normal procedure for transponders is that you hand in your driver's licence in exchange for it, and when you give the transponder back, you'll get your driver's licence back. Sometimes they ask for a deposit of a few hundred bucks too.

Here's last year's results...

So @FT_86_SM_GP does that make you feel better?

Knowing that you can run 1m19.0 at the Z, so you can potentially knock the poop out of many high hp cars with your little 86

Lol! looking forward to see what my little 86 can do

Those times are pretty tight between 1m22 to 1m19
Then 1m17s to 1m16s
Then Anton and Carl in their space shuttles! lol
(I think they created that Zwartkops maps with their data)

I got a feeling those times are going to get better/quicker this year, competition looks hot in the Turbo classes!!

51 Michelin Cup cars at last count, on top of usual Supertrax crowd.
Gonna be friggin chaos!! Ha-ha-ha

Fortunately with Michelin Cup, being a Time Attack race, we only need one hot lap during the day, not many laps farting around in a procession of slow high-hp cars.
So it'll be a case of getting ready and warmed up in the early sessions, then playing some chess with the traffic to get an open track for that one hot lap.
Best chess player wins - LOL!!

Who's going to be there? For Michelin Cup and/or Supertrax?
