What would you suggest? 245/30?

Because this guy has it at 225/40 for his car:

Look at the tire specs and compare to stock. Around 25 inches diameter is good. Stock is 24.7, 245/40 is around 25.6, 225/40 is 25. Many people run 245/40, but to me it looks like too much sidewall. Since you say function>form you should just get 255/35 or 245/265 35's

Streets & AutoX
Requirements:
lighter wheels - function > form, though looking good is a definite plus.
Perfect Flush
Square Set up

My option:
Looking at 18x8.5 with 245/40, offset: +42 Front, +32 Rear, no Camber

Taken this from the Wheels Directory post Darren started but I am wondering if the offsets are a bit too much for the front?
Also I am wondering if that tire is too skinny for the power I am putting down. I don't want to kill gas mileage as well.

Any sort of suggestions?
What @swarb said about the tires is correct.
It's about total diameter, so as you go wider you need to go with a shorter sidewall number to match the ideal diameter. For speedo accuracy, you want to stay within 5% max, but close as possible to stock.

OEM diameter for 215/45R17 is 24.6"
  • 225/40R18 - pretty close, 25.1", 7.5-9" wheel
  • 235/40R18 - bit tall but okay 25.4", 8-9.5" wheel
  • 245/35R18 - just about perfect 24.8", 8-9.5" wheel
  • 255/35R18 - pretty close but still okay, 25.0", 8.5-10" wheel
  • 265/35R18 - even taller but doable, 25.3", 9-10.5" wheel
  • 275/35R18 - tall but within 5%, 25.6", 9-11" wheel
  • 285/30R18 - close to perfect OEM diameter, 24.7", 9.5-10.5" wheel
What is your suspension setup? Stock, lowering springs or coilovers, camber settings?

I am lowered 1" all over - using Megan Racing Streets Coil Overs (not the ez ones). I don't have any camber settings right now.

Looks like 245/35 seems likes a go for me in that case.
What about 235/35? Would that be too skinny for a 300 whp grip?
As for 8-9.5 wheels, is it advantageous to choose bigger or is it just user preference?

There is no "real" reason to go with bigger wheels other than your own preference. Larger = more unsprung weight, more inertia to overcome.

But then I should be on 17x8's, and not running 18x9's with 255's, lol..

Looking at the tire-size conversion
It shows:
275/35R17 = 24.6x10.8R17 is the only other equal one... that's too wide of a tire and definitely too much if I'm only aiming at 300 whp lols

If I do want to stick with 17s and have a wider grip than stock 215, I will have to do a 245/40 which is a +0.4%... which is as close as I am going to get on 18s.

So is 245/40 with 17x8.5-9 a sound choice?

Btw thanks so much for the input Slick!

Yeah, perfect size tire and the wheel size is spot on.

As long as the wheels don't poke (correct offset), then a 245/35R18 would be a perfect fitment.

Good morning or afternoon to you east coasters. I am having trouble finding the answer via search but I'm sure it's been asked before.

I'm going to run stock rims for awhile but I want to get rid of the gap that exist with the stock tires on as well. How would I go about remedying this problem without a drop?

Spacers? If so could you point me in the right direction?

Would those spacers also work for new tires in the future so as long as they are the same dimensions?

Complete noob in this area so apologies for the silly questions. Thanks.

Would 215/50/17s fit on stock everything lowered a bit over 1 inch?

I'm on TRD springs but want to get some 215/50s on my stock wheels. Will it fit without rubbing?

I know 215/55s will rub on lowering springs from this thread:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?p=536325

But not sure about 215/50s, any help would be appreciated!

Im lowered on Tein S springs. I am looking at the Advan RGIII rims. Would 18's fit without rolling the fenders? What would be the best size? I don't care if they are 17's or 18's. I just don't want to rub or have issues after I order them.

Thanks.

245/35 is a perfect tire size for an 8.5" wheel.

I just got the wheels, spacers came today. THEY LOOK AMAZING! I can not lie, I am a little nervous on them even fitting, they look HUGE compared to what is on now! LOL

Thanks for your help Slick and I will post a picture when installed.
