Can someone ease my mind a bit when it comes to engines blowing up?

So I know I shouldn't be doing this, but I'll be boosting my stock engine with the Sprintex 210 non-intercooled kit with E85 and 72.5mm pulley. I know engines being blown due to FI is a definite possibility, but how often does this really happen?

I know there are also a lot of variables to it, such as a tune (I'll be going to Mike from Moto East), the state that the engine is in right now (73k miles), correct installation of the kit, and etc, but is having an engine being blown out a common occurrence? Is it inevitable?

Can someone hit me with some facts, like percentages of cars with the engine blown, and etc to the best of their knowledge?

Get a conservative tune, don't do high throttle under 3,000rpm. Get a catch can, get a long life out of your engine.

Get the intercooler portion of the Sprintex. That will help!

I have an auto, it would just shift for me! And catch can? Alright, adding that to my list of supporting mods.

That's on the list. Other than IC, what are some other preventative measures?

An oil cooler possibly. I'd suggest the OEM forester or Jackson racing dual radiator if its your daily. Idk about dailying an air2oil cooler. I feel that might over cool.

Agree, I have used block off plates during winter with air to oil coolers during winter, even with a thermostat.

I'm currently using a Forester unit on my 86 daily, more to get engine temps up as apposed to cooling.

Um, I've seen a few threads started by you on here now, and I basically get the following sense:

1) you are super stressed out to install this FI kit you just bought

2) you are not mechanically inclined

No knock on you being not experienced with working on cars etc., but maybe you should just sell the kit and enjoy your car. If you want something with more power, but another car with more power from the factory. Why?

1) aftermarket FI always adds risk to your car. I'm not necessarily talking about spectacular engine failures. I'm talking about all the little things - vaccum leaks, belts snapping, oil leaks, compressor failures. You may be fine, or you may have little issues here and there that may need to be addressed - not sure you will be happy dealing with that.

2) to compound item #1, you bought a used kit. Nothing wrong with a used kit, but you are just at a higher risk of little issues.

3) not sure what your budget is, but plan to spend more than the 1500 + install you know about.

Anyways life is miserable if you are just stressing all the time.

What I’m most worried about is just facing the fact that an engine might blow and I’d have to drive my mom’s Corolla for a few weeks. That would suck and I’m doing everything I can in my power to prevent that.

Anyways, I believe that I hopped on the FI train rather too quickly and haven’t gotten a chance to really enjoy my car in it’s NA form but I knew I wanted to eventually SC it and the timing is just too great. Someone happened to sell a twin screw SC that I have always been lusting about. I had to get it. I didn’t have long to sleep on it;I just jumped the gun.

It seems that I have certainly bit off more than I could chew and I guess me asking a bunch of questions is just how I cope, haha..if that makes sense..

Anyways, I’m excited for the kit. Fingers crossed that it won’t blow up.
