All stories don't end in failed engines, or bad experiences with a dealer, and I wanted to share mine.

I dropped off my car on Thursday, 4-18-19. The dealer said it would be ready Monday, 4-22-19.

My car was ready, as committed, and was fine. It was obvious the engine had been out of the car, I could tell by OEM markings on hoses which were re-oriented, clamps were lined up different, and two things were corrected (that were an issue before I brought it in) with the air intake and the sound generator. No damage to the car, everything was clean except for a few spots of Super Blue from the refill.

The car had brand new oil, nothing in it, and the car had 8 more miles on it than when I brought it in. The car started and ran fine, and may have been a little bit quieter than when I brought it in (less ticking). I drove it 70 miles after pick-up without any issues, and checked the oil when hot at home. Still, completely clean.

I checked all fluids involved in the recall the next morning, cold, and everything was fine. I used the car throughout the day, and put another 70 miles on it, some of it very spirited, without any issues. Checked fluids while hot, and everything was still fine.

I'm driving it regularly now.

I know failures can happen later, but I feel that my work was done well, and I plan on getting my tune next week. If anything happens, I'll update this thread.

You're three days and a few hundred miles in. I'd be skeptical for quite a while more if this recall had been done to my car.

For sure.

I'm ~1850 miles in, one autoX, and one 400mi round trip, and still haven't counted my chickens.. Once the tripometer hits 2,000, I will post. Even then there are a few who have failed at over 2,000 miles.

Good to know.. thanks. I'm waiting to hear back from BAFX support.. who knows. Maybe this old brain is missing SOMETHING this time around. Will keep trying.

I'm definitely more of an optimist than I should be. It's always been this way.

One of my friends posted a few days ago, his car failed at 1600 miles after the recall work (at a different dealer).

Well, that in itself, wouldn't give me a real warm fuzzy feeling -

Keep in mind there are only 8,000 BRZs spread across the whole country. The ones that are keeping the Subie dealers hoping are the 392,000 Imprezas, Outbacks and Crosstrecks that need to be done. Those of course they have had zero issues with since it is a completely different procedure.

If they all have boxer engines, why is the procedure different?

The springs can sneak out under the cams.

No removing the cams = no removing the timing chain = no removing the front cover.

The FB engine pays 7.3 hours vs FA 12.5 hours. It's significantly less work.

maybe it s a different procedure analysis in US because the official letter Subaru dealers are receiving in italy, states 9 hours +0.1 hours for "documents management" for MT brz cars.. automatic cars 1 hour more
I try to recover the photo of it

That's terrible. Even 12 hours is pushing it. I wonder how the pay goes for technicians in Italy? The issues here seem to be coming from a low paying recall forcing flat rate techs to rush.
