Old thread new post.. O.O Just got my TRD intake installed. I had drop in filter for 2 years.

Impression. It really smooth things out @ lower rpm, my car no longer choke for air when I'm coming to low rpm @ near stop & there is just a tad more power & get go everywhere + better top end. For an intake that subaru not gonna give you trouble unlike all other after market intake. I'd say it's prefect. Definitely a good upgrade.

Why you didn't wait for the new intake? How about the sound tube? Is there a part included to close the hole?

Dude is confused between intake manifold and (air) intake. The (air) intake should be the same in the MY17. It's the intake manifold that's been redesigned.

Really? I thought that both intake manifold and air intake were re-designed.

Well, no one really knows for sure yet since Toyota hasn't released pictures, but everything I've read specifically states intake manifold. We'll see soon enough though.

Ya there is, they give you a cap to go on one side of the sound tube in engine bay. LOL
I got mine from a friend for 220. So I think it's totally worth it, sound alone is a big improvement. I used to find my exhaust & intake pipe noise to be somewhat annoying @ times. Now it's just more enjoyable.

As for the 2017 stuff we will see when they are out. Pretty sure ppl gonna put some of them on sale cheap, modding is just a joy with this car.

Thread bump!

Pretty much read this whole thread, whatever happened to more testing on this intake? It gets lots of positive reviews but there were concerns around MAF scaling and turbulence. If you run one of these with a modded snorkel does it royally mess up the MAF readings?

There are limitless possible modifications that could be made to the snorkel. All of which could slightly or drastically alter your MAF scale on all intakes. This also includes the stock one.

My recommendation would be to not modify your snorkel in any way shape or form. Just leave it the way it is. Unless you have a dyno and you are actually tuning the car when you modify the snorkel you are basically just modifying it with magic pixie dust and rainbows as inspiration.

If you haven't logged your MAF before and after to see how it changed as well as fueling accuracy and better yet map pressure / dyno readout then you are modifying it without science behind you to help you out.

Nothing but changing maf diameter is going to alter the maf scale.

You'd be surprised. I have been testing different intakes for a very long time now, and there are many many many more factors to what influences the MAF scale than just the diameter.

For the 86 specifically there are several intakes on the market with the exact same diameter MAF tube, and a completely different MAF scale. It's no coincidence why our intake's MAF scale is so close to stock, and it's not just because we're using the same diameter MAF tube. If that were the case, everyone else's intake would be perfect, wouldn't require any sort of MAF scaling and would be highly recommended.

If that were the case, you'd need a different tune for every different weather condition, and that simple isn't the case.
