Rule of aerokits?

On the brz in particular...

Is it awkward to not have a spoiler if you have front, side, rear underskirts

One of my favorite show cars ever (BRZ Premium Sport Package Concept from the major show Tokyo Auto Salon 2013) has aero with no rear spoiler:

These cars look good wingless. Also, it's your car; do what YOU want, not for what other people want.

Are you talking aesthetically? or aerodynamically?

Aesthetically, that's up to your eye, and if the car has visual "balance".

Aerodynamically, you should always balance the rear, with the front, to keep the center of pressure (Cp) behind the center of mass (Cg).

the first rule of aerokits is you do not talk about aerokits.

I intend to run a giant wing without sideskirts. You can mix and match however you want.

as simple as that is, i never even thought about it. never really had a car where aero was a cost effective way of achieving my goals though

If you can deal with ugly aesthetics, you'd be surprised what changes you can feel with some sheet metal at each end of a car.

ive seen it often and i always hear about dropping a couple seconds of sub 2 min tracks and such. its just for me and where i have always been with my cars, mechanical grip in the form of tires and suspension has been my priority. that and the amount of money i could spend in aero could likely be better spent on data logging and track time.

ive started to build track cars at 4 times and then i end up going to school and it sucks. im on my 3rd miata and its by far the most competent track car ive owned so maybe this time around.

You should make a post in the "other vehicle" forum and share your project. I'm sure a number of us would enjoy seeing what you have done, even though it's not an FT86 chassis.
