I think if you're here "temporary" but maintaining residence in Canada and filing taxes there you would be "ok" keeping your vehicle registered to Canada. You're never changing your permanent home or buying a permanent residence.

I mean you're not changing your license and citizenship right?

No clue here, but I'd be interested to see what you find out.

I will be changing my license, state requires it within 15 days of renting a place there. I'll actually file taxes in both countries *sigh* and no on the citizenship but I will be getting a long term work visa.

Not sure how it works across borders, but a friend of mine from Texas, who owns property there, still has his car registered there after moving here 5-ish years ago. He still has to get his driver's license here, though.

I realize this thread is a few months old, but when are you moving here? I live in Cincinnati and work in NKY as well. There's a pretty decent 86 following here. Also, a few Auto-X groups.

As far as inspection/registration goes, I've never had an inspection done on my car (However, it is registered to my parents address in Toledo). But I don't think you will have any problem.

Winters aren't bad either. I've only been through one winter with my BRZ, but there were times that it got to 60* and I took my snow tires off for a few weeks until it got cold again. That being said, it also depends on if you live in a hilly place. The apartment I had last winter was in a pretty flat area, but my new apartment is at the top of a big hill..we'll see how that goes.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Just saw this now sorry! I'm moving down in 3 weeks actually going to be in Lexington so hopefully slightly milder. Luckily I get a company car so I can park my FRS on days that aren't perfect.

Are there any FB groups? I'd love to meet some local owners and hit up a bunch of events.

There are! The one I know of is the "Cincinnati 86: Tristate BRZ/FRS/86 Owners" There is probably other Kentucky ones though.

There's so many names they could be and Facebook search on mobile is useless lol. I'll have to do more googling later.

Thanks for the recommendation though. definitely will get out to a few meets and events.
