My togue career ended quickly. I was more like Shingo, fearless, a bit crazy and one night I ripped the beads loose on my front tires. Cars, apparently, can have mechanical limitations.

I just did the math, that wreck was twenty damned years ago! Christ, I'm old.

Yep, now days a 5 year old, has to wear a helmet to ride a bicycle, with training wheels, down a sidewalk, in front of their house.

No wonder so many of them have auto accidents when they first learn how to drive......

I think the kids are getting screwed up by the adults. We teach them to be afraid of everything and that everyone cares about their feelings and then send them out into the world to do what people tell them and not be pussies and get mad when they can't pull it off. Sorry kids.

Yep, it's a tough call, these days. I was allowed to roam anywhere my little legs could take me (raised on a farm). I allowed my kids to roam as long as they stayed in the neighborhood. I won't let my granddaughters go up my own street to get the mail without me being along.

(of course, we were bad assed kids, mess with us and you might get opened up with our folding buck knives ........ )

I work with much older folks, one almost being 3 decades older than myself, and this is pretty much the exact same sentiment they all have.

One was kinda surprised at how cynical I am, especially at my age. They didn't believe I was 24 until I showed them my driver's license.
