Yep, wouldn't have been the motivation to launch rockets into space and put people on the moon. Or have tanks be able to keep their barrels at a specific angle of elevation while racing through fields at 70kmh to stop an advance.

Two things we all know are true...

War drives development of technology, porn drives its adoption in the public sector.

Some people think that about just regular tech companies.
There's this guy that always asks me these ridiculous questions and tells me his crazy theories because of the company I work for.

Looks like I missed the party.

It's all about choosing the battles. We don't get to choose who is above or below us in a professional hierarchy nor do we have to like them. It's up to each individual to set personal and professional limits.

As much as I hate using it, my pitchfork is always within arm's reach.

No choice who is above but depending on position there may be a whole lot of choice on who is below!

My gf asked me an interesting question. Question was, when I drive my car, do I think about what gear I am in? I had to think for lil bit and I had to actually drive to answer that question.

My answer was no. I only look at RPM and MPH once a while. When RPM goes up, I just shifts up to next gear & don't really think about which gear I am in. I look MPH once a while to make sure I'm not speeding too much, but that's pretty much it. Maybe I'm thinking which gear I am without knowing. IDK... either way, I can tell which gear I am in when I grab the shifter, but don't really think to myself that "oh, I'm in 3rd gear, so I'll go up to 4th gear"

How bout you guys? Do you guys think which gear you're in when you're driving?

I turned on my gear indicator so I can see it on the dash. But I generally know what gear I'm in. If I've been driving at a constant speed that isn't on the highway for awhile I can forget though so that's why I turned it on. Plus I'm a pilot so I live for information overload.

But don't you figure that out by just looking at the RPM? I highly doubt 4th gear can run 70mph in 2k rpm. But I get what you're saying.

LOL! you never mentioned that.

You should train her to drive stick without the gearshift indicator or even the need to look at the tach for starters (remember the old cheapo Civic DX manual didn't even have a tach), that should improve her senses.

To me the indicator is just telling me if everything is in good working order or not, and not as a reminder of which gear I'm in (except for reverse).

Gearshift indicator? Do you think, I have turn that on in my brz?

When she was test driving new WRX, it's on automatically and she was just wondering about that question.

I don't think about what gear I am in, when to push the clutch, how to grab the shifter, what revs am I at or anything else when I drive. I just sort of do them all with no conscious input at all.
I have to actively pay attention to what I am doing to even discuss the act of shifting on here. Couldn't tell you what the tach says for each of my shifts since I never ever even look at it and my shift points vary with the type of driving I am doing at that point anyway. It might as well not exist for all I use it for driving. I just drive with no more thought given to shifting than I give to braking or steering.
