Japan BRZ / 86 pre-order numbers

Our Japan office talked to SoJ and ToJ a bit yesterday, and unofficial semi-official numbers as of the 18th have the BRZ at 5000 pre-ordered, and the 86 at 8000 pre-ordered. Anybody in Japan trying to order either the Subaru or Toyota will have to wait till August now...

Paul Hansen

That's pretty surprising that pre-orders have gotten that high already, at least in Japan. I hope in the states the public will be open to pre-order as well, I wanna pre-order mine before I'm put on a waiting list for a while.

This is good new, if this continues it might start another Car revolution in Japan. It's great since it was dying in the mid 2000 with more people interested in cars, that great news for the enthusiast population around the world for sure.

I assume he meant 8000 GT86 preorders. FRS is only our US designation I think.

Does this mean allocation to the US will be slower? If they are already having problems keeping up with pre-orders in Japan then its not going to be pretty the first few month for everywhere else.

Who knows, hopefully the dealers will be able to get 3-4 of them within the first month otherwise I'll be waiting with everyone else

Whether the numbers are true or not, if stealerships will try take advantage of low supplies and jack prices up I'm just gonna pass this car up for now. There is always next year to get it when the initial hype is over. Also, if they can't keep up with the demand - too bad, some folks may end up bying something else. I am for one have been eyeing M3 coupe for last couple years. BRZ of course seems much wiser purchase in terms of fun per dollar spent... looking forward to test drive one

thanks Paul! iv also been getting similar reports of a HUGE order of first production vehicles in Japan.

While that doesn't mean anything to us directly in the international market (US/EU/AU/etc). Indirectly it means that market analyses in the small sports car segment might be still alive to move hands of competitors. Which most makers have been conflicted with.
