Drove my 2017 86 AT last week, crashed

Was involved in an accident last Thursday evening. I've already been deemed not at fault and a body shop is starting inspection/estimate. What do you think guys? Do you think the at fault parties insurance will attempt to total it? (assuming they have enough property damage coverage to pay for repairs) Air bags didn't deploy, engine didn't seem to be damaged. Just radiator, front bumper, crash bar, hood, headlights, various things near the radiator.

The KBB value is anywhere between 18.5-22.5k right now on 11321 miles.

Personally I would want it totalled. They will probably push to fix it though being so new and low miles.

You're missing quite a bit with your list of "justs." Basing it off one picture and angle anyways.

Not quite the same look, but check out a similar BRZ thread for comparison.

I don't want to total it because I'll either be upside down by like $1-1.5K or break even and come out empty handed.

I neglected to take a picture of the engine bay, but I didn't see any damage from the airbox back. the hoses were smooshed, but the impact did not reach the timing belt cover on the engine block. we'll see though when the shop gets back to me.

just for reference, it seemed like everything got pushed back to about this line.

Well, zaockle, that's a shame .......

I'm surprised the air bags didn't deploy .....??

I think it fixable, but I'm not sure the other insurance company will opt to fix it.

Do you care to relate to us about how that happened .. ??

Please keep us posted.

That's quite a bit of deformation in the crash beam from what I can see. I'm not sure how the structure around it handles that type of damage, but that's really where the determination of 'fixable' will come from. Unfortunately, there's no way to tell from that picture.

It would be interesting to see what it looks like when the bumper and all the parts are taken off.

You didn't get gap? If you came out breaking even thats better than having a vehicle thats never right, has an accident on its history and is worth significantly less than it was before the accident.

Again, it's hard to tell by one photo, bit im surprised the airbags didnt deploy, and you can tell the fenders are off, so there is a good amount of damage you're probably not taking in to account or won't be discovered until teardown.

Looks like you smashed in to someone's trailer hitch, what actually happened?

The panels on our cars are paper thin and anything will dent them. Thats the price you pay for saving weight though.

Our cars are rock solid compared to the panels on the new Impreza. I didn't think it was possible to have panels with more flex until my wife got hers and I put a big crease in the quarter panel by brushing against it with a laundry basket.

Jeez, I thought it was not possible either. I would think the Impreza would have been built more stout since its heritage is Rally. I guess the heritage is just a badge now.

+1

My crash beam was totally unscathed as it was under the point of impact, the frame rails it is attached to must be tweaked to some extent.

$15k+ repair based on the estimate for my '14 sans airbags and paint.

Some depends on the condition of the frame rails to which the crash beam attaches.

Hope it works out for you.

Doesn't your insurance give you bill of sale if the car is newer than 2 years old? If not, you need better insurance.
I would absolutely want that totalled.
