I don't hate the VQ, I just think it sounds like ass, especially with aftermarket exhaust.

Another strike against the GenCoupe for me is, having just checked out their Canadian site, that I need to pay over $31K if I want a damn LSD.

The give us three options,
Base 2.0T, $24,899
Premium 2.0T, $27,899 (adds leather, heated seats, premium stereo and sunroof)
GT 2.0T, $31,149 (all the Premium crap that I don't want, plus metal pedals, HID lights, 19" rims, Brembos, LSD, front strut brace).

Why can't they add the performance stuff to the stripped base model for ~$28K?

Hyundai USA's site seems broken for the GenCoupe at the moment so I can't compare, but $31K in retarded in Canada for thus car. FR-S won't have to worry if it is sensibly priced here. (BRZ on the other hand, oh boy...)

We get the R-Spec 2.0t at 25k. No luxury items at all.

That would be what I want to test drive. Once again Canadian car dealers screw over the enthusiasts...

Is there a difference between the R-Spec and the Track?

My sentiments precisely! Not to derail the thread, but V-6's belong strictly in minivans and as far away from anything resembling sporty. This is a huge reason that I have zero interest in actually putting funds down for cars like the 370Z, GC V6, Evora, Mustang & Camaro V6. Even though they make great power, the sound and feel of a V6 is pitiful and uninspired.

Inline-6's and flat-6's, on the other hand, are proper and passionate implementations of using 6 pistons.

It's a shame they're a dying breed.

Hahaha the last bunch of posts are funny. I went from a E46 M3 to an '05 G35 coupe 6MT and soon after I bought it I was coming home one day and I pulled over to the side of the road. I opended the hood and started looking for something broken under the hood. To my surprise everything was perfectly fine. It was just my introduction to how unrefined and rough that VQ35 motor was. Everytime I think about that I have to chuckle, but that VQ35 sure did makes some tq though. Definitely did feel like a V8 from the 80's/90's. It's just that everytime I went past 5k it felt like the car was coming apart. Coming from a smooth as silk I6 it was a wake up call. LOL Don't even get me started about the drive train and the tranny.

It's funny you said that since I test drove a 328i and a 05 G35 coupe before. I honestly couldn't tell a difference which one was a I6 to a V6. They were both silky smooth and not harsh or strained feeling like a 4 cylinder.

Yea I agree. Things like 350zs, G37s and especially the Nissan GTR sound like an abomination. [/sarcasm].

I6s are inherently smoother but thats really about the only nice thing about them. They are much less compact and more expensive to manufacture. They offer no power advantage and make it harder to get a good weight distribution and take up more room. The V6 sure runs rougher but the bit about them sounding bad isn't true. There's a reason the I6s have lost to the V6 in popularity.

I honestly think V6's sound better than 4 bangers. V6's are more throatier while 4 bangers sound and feel like a weed wacker. I guess it all depends on what kind of sound you like.

I never understood this liking the noise of a certain engine configuration...isn't it just tuning? Certainly more cylinders creates the sense of a higher pitched sound I guess, but how do you tell the difference between a v6 and an inline 6 or a v8 or something :/

Completely agree. I don't think I've heard of any 4 banger sounding better than any V6 in any sport/GT car.

A stock G37s coupe's exhaust

I don't think it sounds bad at all.

Inline-6 and Flat-6 are inherently balanced engine designs. I think they sound better because of it.

The GE LM2500+ is my current favourite engine for sound, better then any automotive engine can make.

I've never heard of the I6 having any sort of advantage in how it sounds. Its only advantage is being smoother. But they are also typically heavier, larger and cause more front end weight as a result.

I prefer GE90.
