Toyota does sell a repair kit for this. The p/n is SU003-11027, hope this helps!

Hey Guys,
Really glad to find this thread. Mine is 2017 BRZ manual, 78000 km. Any chance the EPS coupler is different ? Had exactly the same rattle sound. It wasnt so obvious initially, but since 1 week ago, the rattle was really obvious when going over uneven ground, can also hear it when braking. Will need some time to procure the parts. Anyone can confirm if this is a potential safety issue ? eg. lost steering while driving ? Will it cause any parts damage due to the constant rubbing/banging ? Just to update,
Replaced the Coupler (using Toyota PN), the rattle is gone
