Driving habits changing

When I first got this car, it was babied due to the 1000 mile break in. After that I would rev it, but hardly ever came close to the red line(usually stayed in the 3-5K RPM range). On the freeway I would always cruse in 6th at 65-75. This was cause I was watching the MPG. Now I just don't care much about that anymore. As long as I stay within the 25-30MPG range, I will be happy(while having lots of fun) Now on the freeway I constantly find myself in 4th keeping the rpms high to hear the sweet music the little 2.0L boxer engine makes. This also allows me to punch it for passing and maneuvering in traffic. Anyone else find themselves doing this now?

Unfortunately, I'm like that, too. (BTW I think Costco (91) gives lower milage than Shell (91)!) I start with like 35 mpg then work myself down to 27 before I end up resetting the average so I can start over, hopefully better.

I usually always keep my FR-S in 6th gear when on the highway... I don't get much pleasure from downshifting unless I need the burst of acceleration when on those type of long stretches of road... I used to have fun doing so, but not anymore...

Now, I have to admit that the MOST fun I have is when approaching a fast sweeping left or right turn when the signal is still green (or a protected green arrow), which gives me the perfect opportunity to enjoy a moment of a heel-toe downshift as I keep building great momentum and speed when exiting out of the sweeper... Boy, it feels so perfect every single time I get it right.

Your driving habits are changing but unfortunately they're going from good to bad. You're really abusing your car. However, that's o.k. because it's yours to do with what ever you want.

This is it exactly. I cruise in sixth on the highway, but when it comes to a great on/off ramp or a turn, that's when I love a good power through.

im averaging 22mpg, I also rarely drive on the highway as work is <2 miles from home. Usually im driving pretty hard (shifting at 5k-6.5k) once the car is warmed up.

Too much fun not to.
