Looking into purchasing a used FRS

What are some common things to look for from the first year models? Also, what mods do you regret doing ?

I don't believe there is anything to look for other than things you would look for in any used car.

My "mods" are modest ...... I don't regret any of them.

Happy hunting!

What are some common things to look for from the first year models?

If you're looking at a first year model have it checked out at a Toyota dealer/service location, make sure all the necessary TSBs have been done, also if the cam plate is leaking oil you should just buy a raceseng or other manufacturer cam plate. Also make sure you spend the money on carfax reports or ask the dealer for it if you buy certified pre owned, we've seen a lot of people buy the car and find out later there was an accident with the car and it wasn't fixed correctly OR that they impulse bought the car and didn't look into the history. Also with that ask for any receipts if available of oil changes or maintenance, carfax usually reports maintenance if it was done at a dealership though, I've seen it with my own cars.

Also, what mods do you regret doing ?

None, because if you research enough you'll know what you're getting into before you purchase them

Berk Muffler delete but regret isn't the right word. I grew out of it. For the first few months I loved it but then grew tired of it because it was so damn loud. Got to the point where I absolutely hated it.

But the Berk Muffler Delete pretty easy to resell after removed so no big deal.

A carfax. Look for a car fax. Make sure the car was maintained by Toyota only. If it has a clean fax with regular inerval maint, it was not abused most likely

It's nice, unless you have a dealership that lets the junior, inexperienced techs do all the service stuff, and they screw it up. Like stripping out the oil pan plug, installing the oil filter WAY too tight, giving you a "complimentary" wash with a rag that obviously had gravel stuck in it, rotating the tires and installing them with an impact wrench... I finally convinced them to just give me the oil & filter and I'd do it myself.

Don't forget oil prints all over outside of A pillar and steering wheel!

I feel the same way I had the berk on for around 4-5 months but moving onto a uel header grew me out of it, also now that I know what "loud" feels and sounds like it's kind of off putting.

I'd only be looking for a used one that was certified used from the dealer. You'll pay more but they aren't selling it in their lot unless it's clean.
After I did find a certified used one, I'd be combing over it and looking for scratches and dents that I would have them repair if I bought it.
That's exactly the way I did it for mine anyway minus the dents and scratches that weren't present as the prior owner was a good car owner.

I regretted getting the Perrin headerback WITHOUT the resonator. I was pretty tinny on cold starts.

Regret... I regret its not a prius with 300hp and tq.

I somewhat agree on the 2014+. I bought a 2013 and while I love the car, I do wish it had the padded knee pads on the door panel and console. As far as the engine refinements that are supposed to come with the newer years, I don't particularly care. My car is primarily a commuter and hardly gets abused.

If ya find a 2013 check to see if the drivers side window weather stripping folds in on itself. Apparently it is pretty common on the early ones.
