Looks fantastic! Can you add yaw angle easily? That's handy to have in addition to steering angle.

I think it's doable to pull them from CAN. I know OFT does it but i'm not sure if they're requesting it or just passively reading it. I've been reading up on possible CAN IDs for yaw and G sensors, though I haven't had a chance to test them. I haven't had a chance to look at CAN data for a while.

On another note, this DAQ can now automatically start lap timing and record the best lap time .

Yaw angle and G would be amazing. If you're looking for people to help the project, let me know. I haven't poked at CAN/OBD stuff much at all, but am a software developer and might make myself useful in some way.

Ah cool, more developers! Once I get my wifi hardware, I'll be looking into getting an app running on Android for easier configuration setup and data download. I can do it but I wouldn't call enjoyable, lol. I like to stick w/ embedded software work.

I've been looking for an excuse to play with Xamarin in visual studio... this could be a great excuse.

If I can be of any help, let me know.

I have built a Arduino based datalogger for my racecar (no CAN. all serial or Analog data).
My next step was to incorporate a GPS serial module and 3 axis IMU for accel, gyro data.

I have also made an app for an android phone/tablet that pulls the data from the Arduino over USB and displays it real-time on gauges similar to torque while logging the data to sdcard.
Then I have a Java based app on PC that can parse the data and plot it.

I also have access to high end test equipment including a GPS constellation simulator.

Updated the first page to include a video during the latest field test at Mosport DDT.
Also added support for Lateral and Longitudinal G as well as Yaw rate. I don't have a video of those as of yet.

Did you connect to the CAN bus at the Option Connector ("D29", hiding behind the HU), or the ODBII port, or somewhere else?

On the Subaru/Toyota wiring diagrams, the CAN wires on the Option Connector and ODBII port are all on the same bus (so there shouldn't be any difference in impact to the rest of the car caused by where you connect).

It's currently connected to the obd2 port. But you're right. From the schematics, there's only 1 can network in the car and it didn't matter where you tap into them.

Actually, when I was prototyping another circuit, there were occasions when a check engine light appeared due to my circuit, lost communication to dash.

Thanks for the offers! I'd probably need some help later on once I get the wifi up and running.

So I was playing around with Google Earth and I extracted this from one of my laps at CTMP DDT in June. While not perfect, the GPS accuracy turned out to be great! I can already see a few corners where I'd like to try a different line.

Hope you guys enjoy.

This is a killer project and I've been keeping an eye on it for a while. Great job!

I wish I had the spare time to offer additional dev assistance, but work and school have just about consumed every bit of me...

I'm looking forward to watching this progress in the future. The work you're doing would be a great starting point for a canbus project I've got in mind.

Keep up the good work!

I see you are using the aemelectronics 'aemdata logging analysis' software.

I assume it has the capability of defining your own datafile format?
Does it just read data from your logger in CSV and you just have to give in an input format?

If you want more temperatures, you could easily add a innovate TC-4 via serial data. Or I am working on a 8 channel (4 thermocouple & 4X IR) temp board that could read out in any format you like.
It currently has a raspberry pi zero as controller.
