Its unhealthy, but words do hurt some people. Those people seem to have low self-esteem because of that as well. But in all honesty, those people who get hurt from comments, DO NOTHING to rectify how they feel about themselves. Their the same people who tell everyone "Monday is the day I start eating right and exercising". Monday comes and then they say it Tuesday, and that role repeats itself until they end up on TLC or something stupid. Freedom of speech remember.

I'm 51 and probably 15-20 lbs more that I want to be/was most of my life. On my "team" at work, they all work out and weightlift and are from mid 20's to 39 in age. They also drink protein shakes and take tons of supplements/pills every day.
I was eating McDonalds at my desk and the team leader, somewhat but not completely tongue in cheek called me a fat piece of shit. The irony is when I was in their age range many years on and off I was running 5-8 miles every day, which none of them can do. Even as recent as less that a year ago I was doing that again but my back really started to bother me and I eventually lost interest. It makes me laugh when a 35 year old guy needs to make comments about how many calories are in this and that and how he is ok eating such and such because it only contains so many calories. It seems kinda like a feminine characteristic. I keep thinking that these guys think and have absolutely argued with me that you are much much better off with all the nutritional supplements. I argue that it is mostly marketing and if you eat a balanced diet it is mostly unnecessary. One exception might be a highly competitive athlete trying to shave 1/10 of a second off their sprint time.

Also take note of when that show is on and who watches it. Probably right in the middle of the day where the demographics would closely match those "victims".

I'm trying to shave 1/10th of a second off my sprint time just so I can beat Pam from HR to the break room whenever someone brings donuts to the office. That woman always takes the last maple bar.

Have you ever watched daytime programming? It's one of the most depressing things in existence... Somehow it successfully manages to make you simultaneously feel like you matter, and that you are a self loathing piece of shit.

I don't understand why people are so determined to have an opinion on another individual's life. Unless it affects you directly in a negative way, there really is no point to it. The internet has turned everybody into experts who have an opinion on everything.
As for the whole fat shaming thing? Unless you're extremely obese and are sitting next to me on a flight taking up half my seat, I honestly don't care how much you weigh. |

Whoa! Are you kidding me? I love overweight people! It's already hard enough getting an open. Squat rack, leg press, DB bench, or any piece of cardio equipment that will separate me from anyone by at least one machine between the hours of 5pm and 10 pm (Its like a urinal. Don't get that close to me when I'm doing cardio.).
I really wish this whole fitness fad could be over already. My gym is still clogged with New Years Resolutioners and its freaking July. If any of you ever think about getting a gym membership just stay home, eat some ice cream, and watch Netflix instead. Seriously, try it. Or if you've already left your house, just go directly to the froyo joint of choice and get the largest cup with half froyo and half toppings. Life is sooo much better! |

Healthcare worker's perspective
There is a big difference between being 20 lbs overweight and still being able to move yourself...and the 400+ lbs people.
I honestly view 400+ lbs people the same way I view mountain hikers who go into avalanche zones...proceed at your own risk, because when you cross a certain line...rescuing you becomes dangerous for others. No one wakes up and is 400 lbs...they crossed many other notable weights to get there. No one has to go to the gym everyday or w/e...but eat like a fucking human being and be the size of a human being IF you want the same healthcare as a human being. Eat like a cow...be prepared to be treated like one. Also, to the massively overweight people who claim to be "healthy"...bull shit. Keep being one and a half times your "target" body weight and you will have strokes, heart disease, knee problems, back problems etc... Either look at evolution and notice that in a normal nature...overly fat animals don't make it. Or if you are religious, and notice that every mainstream religion has verses dedicated to keeping your body at a normal weight. |

You can be 5'6 and 300 lbs with Abs.
Just those abs are behind about 175lbs of fat.
