I second the use of a GLock. I actually just flip my belt buckle 180 or 360-degrees and pull it tight and that locks it pretty good. Don't really have any issues at autocross.

Maybe, either way I want to change the harness, so I think I'll just jump to rallye 3.

I'll do that next time.

If you're using a harness with two shoulder straps, you can use a HANS device. Even if you're just sitting on your couch. It's the shoulder belts of the harness that keep the HANS located on your shoulders.

edit Also, I completely missed the word "belts" in your post. You need both shoulder belts coming back to front straight over your shoulders though, so an OEM seat belt wouldn't work properly

Once you've seen an actual HANS device, the answer is clear.

Custom or ?

The few that are available are ridiculously priced for a bolt-in 4 point bar.

Probably custom. We have a few local shops willing to do it

When you have it built, keep in mind head clearance. It's one thing to bash a helmet against a rollbar; it's another thing entirely to bash an unprotected head against it. And the little foam pads do very little.

Yes, and if it goes up the B pillar and across the roof at that point as a lot of rollbars do, the potential exists. I know my head is very close to that area, so I wouldn't be able to use one.

You *can*, but it would serve no purpose, and possibly injure you worse in the case of an incident.

There is no point at all. A HANS device is to prevent basal skull fractures when you're running 4+ point harnesses. With stock belts your torso rotates off the seat in a crash, so the helmet isn't trying to rip your head off your neck.

If you're running Scrothe belts with the tear away patch, it's also not needed. With 5 or 6 point belts you're going to want a seat designed to work with them (likely fixed back), as well as a rollbar and a HANS.
