Definitely my favorite of the two.

This is great news. In my view, the actual concept image is irrelevant. Its a silly mockup without door handles.

The real story here is that Subaru decided to put the STI moniker on this thing. This suggests that an STI version is coming. Subaru can't release a car with 150ish lb ft of torque as an STI, so an STI model would have to be turbocharged.

There's a chance Subaru could release only the STI model next year, with powertrain differentiating it from the Toyota/Scion version. More likely probably, is that next year both the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ (non-STI) are released, each with 2.0L NA, and a few years down the road the BRZ STI is released.

The way I see it, 150ish lb ft torque is enough to get by, but not enough to confidently make it through the intersection when the light turns yellow. The turbocharged model should solve this.

Or, ya know, they could... Because they've been saying all along that "MOAR PWR" isn't the goal of this car. So no, the STI model wouldn't have to be turbocharged.

You're out of your mind. I drove a Yaris for a year, it's plenty fine for daily driving. People are just power hungry and spoiled now because power is more accessible. If you just want to go fast in a straight line, this isn't the car for you.

Or something like that.. I have no idea.

IMO if you can't make it through the light at your current speed or close to it, maybe you should consider.. oh.. I don't know.. stopping for the light?

What he IS saying, is that with low torque, there no huge urge to go, you have to wring out the gears to get going fast from a stop. Strange yes, but trust me, I know of what I speak. My RX-8 has 159ft-lbs of torque, and off the line, it doesn't just blast off very well with that large wave of torque you get with a large engine or turboed small engine. Thru a yellow just shift down and fly isn't a problem though...

Although I've never had a problem with intersections!?

I understand low torque, you have more torque than I do. However, if you need to accelerate that much to get past a yellow.. STOP!

The difference is the Rx8 makes 200whp to the 200hp the FRS makes. So shifting into a lower gear will multiply the torque on both of them and it becomes a non issue. That gets old really quick for me though, but at least the RX8 has a long linear powerband and top end to work with. This car will not display this it will have same low end and good mid-range and choke up top, to give that fun, snappy, less time in gear feel.

At this point the RX-8 or NC MX-5 is the better car.

Having owned Hondas for a decade I shared your pain. Momentum is your friend, but what happens when you need the power to carry you out of the corners onto the straights.

I'm pushing over 200whp/180wtq in my small nimble, supercharged, ~2600# car. I think it is underpowered and I drive the wheels off of it, and I swear I'm denting the floor pan thinking I can go fast if I can just break through it.
