Reverse Camera on stock 2015 head unit

Hey all,

I have a 2015 BRZ with the OEM Subaru/Fujitsu head unit.

I have a few questions:
1) I was wondering if anyone has installed a reverse cam?
2) How well does it work with the head unit?
3) What camera did you buy?
4) What How To/DIY guide did you follow (if any)?

Thanks in advance!

Yes.

I mounted mine in the OEM location on the trunk fascia, so my parking lines are at an angle and not dead center on the head unit screen. I use the camera more for gauging distance, not to see if I'm parking straight.

3) What camera did you buy?

Rydeen Duo, was ~$75 new on eBay.

4) What How To/DIY guide did you follow (if any)?

I used this as a general guide:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17020

I purchased this harness and it was 100% plug and play:
http://www.autoharnesshouse.com/19867.html

Thanks in advance!
Most difficult part was routing the wires from the headunit to the trunk.

Thank you for your reply. It helped me greatly.

Did the harness help a lot? Was it easy to install?

Did you have to purchase the "Reverse Trigger Wire" that was mentioned in the AutoHarnessHouse link?

Thank you.

The harness allowed for a 100% plug and play install. Could I have pieced together a homemade harness with the correct wiring and relay? Yes, but I felt that the pre-made harness was well worth it. The harness allowed for easy integration of the backup camera to the head unit with minimal headaches and complications.

I was originally going to purchase the harness from http://ae64.com/Products.htm but I found that the link I posted earlier was cheaper and had everything I needed. I did not have to purchase the Reverse Trigger Wire and everything functions properly.

I was planning to go with the harness + camera from Beatsonic:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41673

Seems the most straight forward and I know it'll work since so many have tried it.

This can be applied to more than just backup camera installation.

Great resource, those are all the links I've bookmarked for my install as well. If I can add, this is the cable that you want: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=78

ae64.com has three different cables listed and being an audio noob I wasn't sure which one to get, but was advised on that one.

That large black box on the harness (relay?), did you secure it somewhere?

I just let it hang around in the bundle of wires lol. it's pretty tight in there so I doubt it will be moving a lot.

I am super HU noob. Where does the parking brake connector (DRL connector) go with the autoharness version? Did you splice into the harness?

The parking brake signal already goes to the head unit, you unplug that connector and plug it into this one if I'm remembering my install correctly. I recommend the harness as well since it was super simple to connect. The only thing you do with the harness is plug in your video cable from the camera and connect the 12V power to the camera. Make sure you get a camera that can tolerate the 12V.

There's no 16-pin to connect it back into, check it out.
Two 10-pins, so whatever you take out, you connect it back into the harness.

But there's only one 16-pin connector.

Speaking of the 10-pin, I'm having a nightmare with this, it's not keyed correctly to the back of the head unit.

Why is this so difficult? Should've been easy, plug, and play.
