I have the auto tranny FRS NA and plan on staying NA. The 1st thing I did was go to 4.88s. Got the gears from Robert Weir for $270. Paid my shop $500 to install them.
I love what it did for my car. Dropped 0 to 60 times a full second and dropped 30 to 70 mph time by 1 1/2 seconds.
60 mph is 2500 rpm, 70 is 2750 and I can still get over 30 mpg. This is by far the best mod I have done to my car.

How did you calculate these runs?

With a "G-Tec" SS meter. It works off GPS and will give you all sorts of info.

I'd say it really depends what you want from the car. If you just want an upgrade that makes the car feel quicker in day to day traffic its probably a pretty good mod. Will it actually make the car faster? I'm not so sure. I'd be more inclined to believe that it might make the AT faster since it has a much lower gear to start with and the extra shifting won't effect it as much.

With the MT on a track, the higher final drive ratio can keep you in the powerband more, but you have to weigh that against the possible extra shifting time, so it really becomes very track dependent. For example, at Summit Point where both Myles (Racecomp Engineering) and I have run, Myles ran a low 1:28 with the final drive. With slightly less power than him (~180 vs ~185whp) and less sticky tires (235/40R17 Dunlop ZII's vs 235/40R18 Pirelli Trofeo R's) I ran a 1:27.5. Now I know it may not be a completely fair comparison (different driver, different date, different suspension setups etc.) and I'm not just trying to toot my own horn (OK, maybe just a little ) but I just want to point out that at least on track its not going to be some sort of earth shattering mod that magically makes you faster, especially depending on the track and where your shift points will be. Also, I'd imagine that for a lot of the MT cars that autocross the higher final drive ratio may make them run out of 2nd gear on a lot of the courses.

So just read the whole thread at 5:50 am and very interested in doing this.
Where do we order this 4.55 kit? and does it come with everything needed for a shop to install.

Someone in thread mentioned they bought their kit for like $330. How does that differ with the Cusco kit?

They may have used the units from a different car (for example, a 4.77 comes from a Kia). Cusco manufactures high quality units.

Thanks fellas! looks like this will be close to a $2000 mod just to get the gearing close to the manual. I wonder if its better to just trade in for a certified pre owned manual.

What do you mean $2000? I got my 4.88 gear set from Robert Weir for under $300 and had it installed for $500, $800 total!
