Guage showing lower than normal oil pressure

So, I was out delivering the other night had this guy on the hwy going 5 under (55mph), so I downshifted to 3rd and passed him. When I get back to cruzing I notice my oil pressure is reading lower than it should. (My OCD keeps an eye on that thing constantly, so I know the normal operating pressures per RPM, and what they should be. Well, whenever I got to my destination and stopped, my oil pressure guage went to 0, and I was like "Fuck."

I was close to a buddies house, so I took it over there to cool down, and check it out. Changed the oil and filter, and didn't notice any metal or anything. Put new oil in, got to operating temps, and my pressure was back to normal. About an hour and half into to delivering and driving like a grandpa monitoring everything, I decided to do a little 3rd gear pull, and shifted about where the torque dip is, then I noticed the oul pressure surging. At least it's not 0PSi at idle, but 6psi is scary too. Also, after I pulled over at my destination, I noticed a slight tapping noise coming from the passengers side head.

Going to take it in next week to get it checked out, but was wondering if anyone might have an educated guess at what my issue is, so I can give them more info when I take it in. This is my DD, so any info to speed up diagnostic and repair is greatly appreciated.

Pull your pan and look at the oil pickup screen. Maybe there's something in there that's blocking the pickup when the oil pump is working harder at high rpm or when there's acceleration force

I reckon that's the reason most manufacturers don't put oil pressure gauges on cars anymore. Sometimes TMI can be unsettling.

Maybe your oil pressure gauge is just ah messen with you?

Then, maybe, when you "hear" the tapping sound, your paranoia is ah messen wich ya?

Well, at least we can hope that's all it is.

What oil pressure gauge are you using?
No stock gauge as far as I know, certainly not on my car.
Are you using a mechanical gauge, or tapping into OBD data?

Not that it really matters, just curious.
If you got the valve spring recall done recently, this might be how the problem happens... Good on you for having the tools to notice such things though.
I'm sure most people would just drive it normally until the thing seizes, then say "it no more go? What wrong?"
