I would have thought that the option would already be out but maybe is too soon. Still a great option to keep in mind. |

Discussion: Oil/Water readings for Ptuning turbo setup
Optimal, high and low oil temperatures? Optimal, high and low water temperatures? What oil are you using for your Ptuning turbo setup? What oil temps are you seeing with Ptuning oil cooler and without oil cooler? What water temps are you seeing? What modifications have you done to help reduce temperatures? There is a big difference between the Setrab 25 row(?) that @sw20kosh and @mkivsoopra are using, and the PTuning laminova that I am using. I am very satisfied with my oil cooler; especially that I don't need to disconnect it during the winter, however it has its limits. At 85F ambient weather, I was able to track my car for 20 hot lapping minutes at buttonwillow with the Ptuning laminova cooler while reaching 235F oil and 227F water. At 105F ambient weather at the track, I had to back off the throttle after 10-15 minutes. I suggest not taking the car past 245F oil and 235F water. I use Amsoil 5w30. I have Koyorad aluminum racing radiator. Without an oil cooler, it is risky to track for longer than 5-10 minutes as your oil temp will sky rocket. You will need oil to be above a certain temperature to burn off any water - I think 200F? I don't know the exact. Some good info on cooling here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73279 |

I have a big 25 row setrab and koyo radiator and saw a max of 214F oil and 214F water at the same track and about the same ambient temp... maybe a few degrees cooler. It is way overkill for street though. I actually have it disconnected now, otherwise I'll be seeing 150F while cruising on the freeway. This is WITH a thermostatic sandwich plate. Without any oil cooling, i typically see 215-230F on the street in mild ambient temp. If driving hard, it will easily hit 265+. In other words, oil cooler is recommended, track or not. If you track, then it is mandatory. As for additional mods, I've put foam around the radiator and added panels on the side of the intercooler to prevent air from leaking through the sides. @sw20kosh has the stock radiator and same oil cooler and sees similar temps that I do. |

If you guys are seeing 212+ water temps, you've got boiling water running through your lines...

Coolant has a higher boiling temperature. It also acts differently when pressurized vs in the atmosphere. It takes a higher temp to start boiling. |

In reality, the pressure cap on a cooling system is key to raising the boiling point of the 50/50 mix. For every pound of pressure cap rating the boiling point of the mixture raises 3 degrees. This is essentially that @rb6freak is saying when he states that it acts different pressurized vs in atmosphere. None the less, @Blizzz nice try with the scare tactic.

That's the reason the coolant system is pressurized. The best coolant is pure water. The antifreeze is added on to keep the water from freezing and potentially cracking the block in cold weather. Plus the additive is there to lubricate the water pump. If you track the car often and live in a warm climate, the best "coolant" is pure distilled water and some water wetter.
