Torquing them to a specific number satisfies my OCD because that way I know for sure each lug nut and all 4 wheels are equally tight.



I don't feel safe putting anti seize on lug nuts. If they come loose and my wheel falls off while going 70 MPH on the highway then I'm kinda screwed.

Yes, I agree, if one were swapping wheels quite frequently, it would be good to have some stronger wheel studs. Wait one, iffen they were swapped more frequently, maybe the lug nuts would be less likely to bind on the studs - Speaking of lug nuts, maybe we should be blaming the lug nuts for seizing to the studs, instead of the studs breaking off.



Using a torque wrench to insure the lugs nuts are sufficiently and uniformly tight surely is a good idea. Personally, I trust the built in torque gauge in my arm more, because my eyesight is soo bad that I have a hard time reading a torque wrench dial/gauge.-

CAUTION: For the over 75 age group, you may have to modify the "two squeaks and a grunt" to two squeaks and two grunts. When in doubt, I suggest you recalibrate your arm every 5 years using a torque wrench.

Now, about that anti-seize stuff. Back on the farm, in the rust belt, I used to give the wheel studs a squirt of coal oil. Especially the large rear wheels on the tractors. Why? Because if those puppies froze up, you couldn't find a 3/4" drive socket strong enough or a breaker bar extension long enough to break them lose.

I swap my wheels weekly in the summer months. Before and after track. I've never had a problem and have an extra 3 in my box just in case. I never use an impact and torque setting is 90ft/lbs

I'm going to suggest the problems lies with nuts that aren't removed very often.

"Relax" is what I didn't do:

* before an ulcer blasted out the bottom of my stomach and I spent 5 days in intensive care with tubes down my nose, down my throat and an IV in each arm.

* nor before unchecked high blood pressure caused macular degeneration in my right eye causing me to read things weird.

* nor my stroke that whacked out my right side for about a year

* nor before surviving two bouts of cancer

* now, mixed in there was being a soldier during Vietnam, a divorce, a bankruptcy, unemployment after 20 years with a company and battling alcoholism for 30 years (rehab fixed that).

I'm going to suggest the problems lies with nuts that aren't removed very often.

When I was researching frequently broken studs the posts I read were speculating that removing lug nuts too often causes the metal on the studs to ball up on the threads until the lug nuts eventually get stuck and cause the stud to snap, or something like that.

My stud snapped after removing my wheels twice in one week. It has been snowing here, so the roads were quite wet/salty, so maybe that caused it to seize. I never use an impact either. I always hand tighten while the car is in the air, then torque to 89 foot pounds when the car is on the ground with my high-ish end torque wrench.

I've been reading them too, that's why I bought the spares .



Could be the salt. Mine is summer driven. I do clean the studs regularly with a soft brass wire brush

The factory accelerator pedal was just a bit too far away for my liking, so I ordered an SRP satin heal/toe pedal. Arrived quicker than expected and it only took maybe 10-15 minutes to install.
