Yup. They only talked about the 86 during the last season (season 18).

Unless of course, this was already released somewhere and I missed it.

This is from the "Top Gear: Worst Car In The History Of The World" special that just came out on DVD. Don't let the title fool you, the 86 is being used as an example of what Toyota did right.

I love the little techniques they use to make the car look like its going faster then it is. Top Gear always had a great camera crew.

Back to the car.

Clarkson builds a good argument without directly mentioning it. Maybe putting sticker tires on this car will make it less fun. I love it when the tires slip a bit, not going into a full drift. But its that little danger that makes my penis wiggle (not afraid to say it) and my heart burst. Maybe i should just leave the stock tires..

That thread has the full ep plus a short report from JC about the car which as an owner of the car was a great read.

Btw he keeps saying we have 197 horses... Is that to the wheels? Because I thought we have 200.

i find that impossible 3hp drive train loss? ive watched dynos of the car before they make roughly 175 rwhp stock if a car lost 3 from crank to fly wheel to clutch to gearbox to drive shaft to output shafts to wheels thats a technical achievement of the gods

the engine is 200hp crank hp and brake hp are a tad different.

well not saying it wasnt built by the gods :-P but the power output is 200 at the crankshaft and about 170-180 at the wheels. which is still very impressive for rear wheel drive its under 20% drive train loss.

Brake horsepower
Brake horsepower (bhp) is the measure of an engine's horsepower before the loss in power caused by the gearbox, alternator, differential, water pump, and other auxiliary components such as power steering pump, muffled exhaust system, etc. Brake refers to a device which was used to load an engine and hold it at a desired RPM. During testing, the output torque and rotational speed were measured to determine the brake horsepower. Horsepower was originally measured and calculated by use of the "indicator" (a James Watt invention of the late 18th century), and later by means of a De Prony brake connected to the engine's output shaft. More recently, an engine dynamometer is used instead of a De Prony brake. Although the output delivered to the driving wheels is less than that obtainable at the engine's crankshaft, a chassis dynamometer gives an indication of an engine's 'real world' horsepower after losses in the drive train and gearbox. This gives a reasonably accurate indication of how a wheeled vehicle engine will perform once on the road.

When just the engine is measured for power, the dynomometer is attached to the crankshaft of the engine. When the engine is in the car so it drives the wheels through the transmission where some power is wasted, the dyno is under the wheels to measure the remaining power that's available to turn the wheels. That's the difference between crank horsepower and horsepower at the wheel.

Im going to be honest.. I was looking for a whiteout at first, but I needed a car for work asap. These were nowhere to be found. I pre-ordered a Raven one at the local dealership they kept ****ing me about with the arrival date. Finally found the Ultramarine decided to check it out in person. Love at first sight . So happy I got it!

Btw I noticed your from the Tri-state area... are there any meets any time soon for us? One of my favorite things about cars like these are the communities formed around them.:happy0180:
