Oddly... Noise isn't helpful, relative to being watchful. Cars are quiet, bikes are quiet, and sometimes it's that bugger speeding to "catch" a yellow a good ten seconds after it's red. It took some getting used to though, I can see how it doesn't make sense.

Also, "judge" was used loosely, not... Judgementally? Ha. Stupid language. Couldn't think of a better word.

I do use the AirPods just about all the time at work though. I don’t expect amazing music quality either. It’d just be nice to have noise cancellation in the AirPod size package along with the convenience that I already enjoy.

Is the noise cancellation and transparency mode pretty decent?
Same, I use em at work. A lot of time, I just have one in the case and one in my ear (due to sometimes I gotta take care patron). I never had an fitting issue w reg AirPods. Pro feel a bit big, but rubber thing will custom fit deep into your ears. My wife have pretty small ears and putting on the small size rubber fit her nicely. As for transparency & NC goes, it's damn good. Transparency mode do need some get used to (for me anyways), but I was surprised w NC mode. My AirPod died inside the dryer (my fault), so it's a nice upgrade. Of course, you can get Beat w same kinda feature w full waterproof ear buds.

Well, OK.

Yep, as I go to pick up my middle school granddaughter after school, I notice that the "walkers" on the street outside the school are walking along with either ear phones in their ears or their heads bent down texting, or both.

When they come to the flashing light/crosswalk near the school, they just punch the crossing button and cross the street without even looking -

What have we have we created?

I found bone conducting head phones. Trex makes them. I gave them to kids and grand kids so they can hear the bus coming from behind.
Not great for classical music nuances but works for most other.

A lot of people get too absorbed and arguably aren't very safe. I see many people wearing headphones, sometimes even full over-ear noise-cancelling headphones while driving. Yikes.

There was a video just the other day of someone falling onto BART tracks out here due to being drunk and on their phone and not staying behind the yellow line.

But in a lot of cases headphones like these are also very useful.

WOW. The youngsters are very sensitive and defensive of their ear buds/headphones!

It was just an observation not a condemnation of any kind.
I don't care how many New Yorkers get hit by a bus but I would want to hear what is going on around me. Mind you I also don't hate people and want to shut them all out so there is that.

Nah, not sensitive and defensive. I think you took that wrong.

I'm saying there are a lot of people who do exactly as you were implying, which is walk or drive around unsafely because they've got headphones/ear buds in. Which I don't agree with!

But as I said at the end, I do think there are just as many useful reasons to wear them in certain situations as long as precautions are taken.

I can not come up with one single "useful" reason beyond entertainment or cutting oneself off from society.

Whatever happened to sharing your music with everybody like the good old days?

So, going back to one of my original things when I replied to Ichi about the Airpods Pro, my office is one of those dumb open-floorplan things. On my floor, my side of the building, we have a large 50 person meeting room. For some stupid reason, corporate likes to reserve it for large training events, which is fine. But the problem is that despite signs and general things to notice, like, you know, people either working by themselves focusing on a screen or discussing work matters with teammates, the people who go to these training events decide to go outside on breaks to where our desks are and start talking extremely loudly, chattering away with no regard for who's around or that they're trying to focus on work.

I don't love having to shut people out, but at work for sure like ol' Hum was talking about last night, I need to be focusing at work.

Sometimes I put headphones on just to isolate myself from these people being noisy and distracting, otherwise I can't be productive!

And yes, I've complained to management before, nothing changes. So, I do things on my own side that I can to improve my own work process.

Also, sometimes when I'm very stressed it can be nice to have headphones in because sometimes I need a way to think without outside distractions. Sometimes without music even on.

And as far as sharing, heh. I wish more people I know enjoyed the same music as me. But sadly nowadays most people like electronic music much more than anything I like. I like some electronic music too, but I also love other genres that people wouldn't want to listen to.
