If you test drove a Scion then you test drove a BRZ. The very minor differences even back then would take some serious driving to even be noticeable.

that was me. i was very on the fence between a BRZ, Focus ST, WRX, and GTI. I delayed test driving for a long time because I hadn't learned manual (took a 2 hour lesson which was money well spent). Once i started doing the test drives I knew 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt that the BRZ was the right one for me. Driving feel is such an important part of the design of these cars. It all clicks into place one you actually get behind the wheel.

Like I said in another thread I don't so much get behind the wheel of the FRS I put the on car and wear it. It is like a familiar jacket or those perfectly broken in shoes.

I agree. My brother has a Focus ST. I borrowed it for a 3-4 month period when I was having bad luck with my cars. I had already owned a '02 WRX from new for 10+ years and the new cars have serious feature creep. The BRZ is closer in spirit (IMHO) to the old WRX than to the new WRX is.

Test drive the BRZ while being on the fence. Knew right away the Focus was out, a quick spin in the WRX also knocked it out...so much different than the 'simple' '02 I owned. Also, I knew if I got serious about the WRX, I'd look at the STI and I really didn't want to climb that high (And the STI still has an EJ).

There's another BRZ owner in Dallas who has his heavily modded (Tomei headers, CF hood/wing, KW coils, ecutek tune, e85, etc), and we're putting down the same numbers at MSR Cresson in my stock (at the time) car. He was not happy about that.

MSR Cresson is a track The numbers are lap times. A good driver in a stock car can kick the butt of a bad driver in a modded car. You can make the car as powerful as you want it won't go any faster unless the driver is capable. No BS there.

There's nothing I wish I had known before buying/owning this car. It brings so much happiness to my life and is a blast to drive. I love it.

It sounded like a power comparison, not lap times.

I wish I knew how fun this car was, and purchased one, before buying new PSSs, RE71 race tires, Konis and a clutch on the '07 MCS we traded in.

Carolina motorsport park is a short drive away from you. That's a super fun one. Also, JZilla track days at Charlotte Speedway. A lot of stuff around NC.
