Why do you have a track car AND a race car? Aren't they both race cars? Do you use the 2000 for something else?

Unequal length double a-arms up front are just that good.

And I get to go racing for the first time in 2014 next weekend with mine.. oh yeah!

It isn't a Prius. The Prius and Auris are on similar platforms in Toyota-speak, but the Auris is not a Prius. It is more like a Corolla. There are some substantial differences from the Corolla. The biggie, IMO, is the fact the Auris has independent rear suspension. That is something that the Corolla and Prius do not have.

I've also noticed a trend of Scions getting bigger engines than their same sized Toyota counterparts. xD was the size of a Yaris... with a 1.8L instead of the 1.5L. The 2nd gen xB got a 2.4L where is was pretty well Corolla sized (1.8L.. though the previous gen Corolla did have the 2.4L offered in the first model year). The tC is also Corolla sized and it gets a 2.5L instead of the Corolla's 1.8L. Soooo, if we see the Auris, I bet we will see it with the valvematic 1.8L as standard (optional on the Corolla) or the Camry 2.5L. If the 2.0T could make it in there, it *could* be a proper hot hatch to fight the GTI and ST. That could really give Scion some sporting credentials. Make a sedan based on the FR-S and you have a well rounded, sporting lineup.

Interesting, things I never knew about a Prius or Corolla.

Still looks like a jellybean and with no badges I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference, especially in pictures. Coming from a guy who is surrounded by at least 10% Prius at all times on the road.

Scion iQ to be axed, new tC & FR-S in the works - report

Quote:
xB & xD to be replaced next year

Scions lineup has largely been untouched other than the addition of the FR-S but new details are starting to emerge about what we can expect in the future.

According to Automotive News, the xB will be dropped next spring and be replaced by a version of the Toyota Auris. The xD is also expected to be axed in mid-2015 and be replaced by a sedan version of the Mazda2 that will be built in Mexico.

Scion's sporty models are expected to survive as a redesigned tC is slated for early 2016. There's also word on a new FR-S coupe which could arrive in the spring of 2017.

Interestingly, the company could offer an entry-level crossover based on the Auris. This could explain the Auris-based prototypes we have seen at the Nurburgring and other places. If Automotive News is correct, the Scion variant could be launched in 2016 or 2017.

Last but not least, the slow selling Scion iQ is expected to head for the automotive graveyard later this year.

Scion's entry-level reload means big changes

The Scion xB will be replaced by a version of the Toyota Auris.

Quote:
After a year of studying the possibility of turning Scion into a near-luxury brand that would slot underneath Lexus and compete against the German entry-luxury products, Toyota has decided to keep it as a starter brand with a product lineup tailored to young shoppers.

That lineup won't be exclusively cheap -- the $25,000-plus FR-S coupe will stay another generation, executives say -- but the emphasis will be on first-time new-car buyers.

With the xB and xD heading well into the seventh year of their cycles, expect big lineup changes starting early next year. Also, expect new nomenclature, as Toyota has filed trademark applications for iA, iD, iM, tD, tK, tR, tS and tZ. That doesn't necessarily mean the lineup will expand to eight vehicles, because Toyota often over-files its trademark apps.

Here is what to expect from the Scion camp in the near term.

xB: Scion's signature box car will go away in spring 2015 when it is replaced by a version of the Europe-market Toyota Auris hatchback, based on the Corolla platform but equipped with a sharp-handling double-wishbone rear suspension. Expect the U.S. version to get something zippier than the Auris' 1.8-liter 136-hp four-banger, which has a poky 11-second 0-to-60 time. The nameplate may be changed.

xD: The Yaris-based hatchback is likely to be killed in mid-2015 when Scion gets a sedan derivative of the Mazda2 from the Salamanca, Mexico, plant. Counterintuitive as it may sound, Scion gets the sedan, while Toyota gets the hatchback variant of the Mazda2. It should arrive by summer 2015. The nameplate may be changed.

tC: The sport coupe's redesign arrived in summer 2010. Expect special trim-package editions but few other changes until a redesign in early 2016.

FR-S: Launched in spring 2012. Although rumors in the Australian press claim the rear-wheel-drive coupe is a one-and-done deal, executives at Toyota and Subaru -- which co-developed the FR-S and its sibling, the Subaru BRZ -- insist there will be a next-generation vehicle. Expect it to arrive in spring 2017.

Crossover: Toyota is studying a low-slung Scion crossover, smaller than a RAV4, and running off a modified Corolla/Auris platform in all-wheel-drive setup. It would arrive in 2016 or 2017.

iQ: The minicar has fallen well short of expectations. Expect euthanasia by the end of 2014.

I think the next generation Yaris will be using new Mazda 2's (not current 2) chassis. So, it makes sense if the next xD will be using the same chassis as Yaris.
