Today I went to FSAE first meet of the year, talked to a bunch of people. Upon seeing the carbon fiber intake restrictor tube again I was like damn, I'd almost forgotten why carbon fiber is awesome. Because it is.

Fun times. Back then it didn't matter WHAT car you had, the fact that you had a car was awesome enough .

Random thought for the day.
Man, I guess this isn't a real complaint but my town was so rich that I was one of only seniors WITHOUT a car, and that really sucked.

i guess i've been lucky. had a car in 10th grade, and then went to mil school, so i didn't have to worry about it. course, the car i had was a '98 4Runner lease, and when i graduated i bought myself the WRX. i was soooo bad to that 4runner. found out it's top speed was 108, then it'd cut back to 102, then accelerate back up to 108. i was such a stupid young kid......

also: i'm really glad that one of the many trolls we have here has been banned. THANK YOU! whoever it was who banned him

edit2: is everyone out drinking or something? someone amuse me!

Hey @Dimman, random idea. So I was thinking, you know, it would be great if a 4 cylinder could produce the banshee like scream of a 10-12 cylinder engine...but having dual variable length resonators is probably too hard.

BUT WAIT, we can make it sound like a V8 with just one resonator that's tuned correctly! If the tuning is off slightly you just get a sorta neat burble/beat, which isn't too bad on its own. Personally, I like the American V8s when they get into the higher rpm ranges, it's just that they poop out too soon. It shouldn't be hard to produce a consistent effect, as long as you can take temperature and pressure readings to calculate speed of sound accurately on the fly and actuate the retractable tube accordingly. I guess that's hard to actually execute, but it's a simple concept. Dual resonators would be much more complicated though.

I kinda want to do this to my car just to screw with people when they hear it "man what the hell do you have in there?" "stock engine "

EDIT: okay I ran some numbers, unfortunately this resonance chamber is going to have to be REALLY DAMN LONG. 5m length for it to work properly at 1000rpm, 2.5m at 2000rpm, etc....for V12 sound, 3.3m, slightly more reasonable, but still longer than my whole car XD

I saw and got to get up close and personal with two S15s and an R32 and and R34.

My life is complete. Pics to come when I am slightly more awake.

Does it have to be straight? You see where I'm going with this...

Sound isn't really my thing. Properly tuned engines seem to always sound awesome.

That being said there is this:

This is the exhaust manifold of a Peugeot 405 Mi16. 4 cyl. Now imagine if the two runners coming off each cylinder were different lengths but equal between cylinders. So like 4 18" runners and 4 27" runners for example, with one of each length per cylinder. Would it end up sounding like a flat-plane crank V8?

I've got eight loads of top soil sitting in my back yard, waiting to be spread so I can get the hydroseed truck in. BUT, it can't be spread until it can dry out some. Guess what's happening in the weather for the next few days... Well, it's not sunshine I can assure you of that. God dammit, 75 mm of rain is expected by the end of the day, according to the rain fall warning.

for those with dogs - have you ever seen them burying bones or anything for that matter?

unlike in cartoons and tv shows I don't think I've ever seen my dog ever dig a hole in the backyard.

Oh god. 3 piece collapsible coiled pipe...Servos would need some sort of belt or something to make that work.

Nope, because the unequal lengths will give it the V8 sound only at 1 engine speed. Okay no, it'll have a similar effect at all harmonics too. Tis why you need constantly adjusting.

If the minimum "working" speed requirement is raised from 1000rpm to 3000rpm, then the length of the pipe will need to be variable from 1.66m to 0.55m (if the engine hits 9000rpm), which is much more manageable. Raise that to 4500 rpm then we only need 1.11m of pipe, but then the engine will refuse to shriek below that speed which sorta sucks :/

The weather outside is the nicest it's been in a long time. 80*, low humidity, clear sky.

Too bad I'll be spending all day/night locked up in Best Buy dealing with "NICK I NEED YOU TO PULL A TV OUT THE WAREHOUSE FOR ME"

Never had a car to drive in HS, maybe because when I got my license I already graduate HS (17) and was applying for college. And everyone in college had a car
