Question Headers?

I haven't done any performance upgrades on my FR-S yet. I was more focused on getting the aesthetics how I wanted them first, but now I'm ready to start working on the performance side. I only know the parts of cars that I've worked on or changed so far so my knowledge is pretty limited so I was wondering if anyone had some good suggestions for start up performance mods? I was leaning towards headers and full exhaust. Anyone know of any brands that are reputable other than the usual Borla, perrin, etc.?

this has been discussed, OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. people will not spoon feed you information readily available.

search, and read.

you need to decide a budget (borla is the lower end--JDL/nameless/HKS are the higher end prices), decide on UL or UEL. decide on catted or not.

FYI, car has ONE HEADER.

Welcome to the group .......

This outfit makes good exhaust pieces ......

http://shop.namelessperformance.com/2013-fr-s/

Personally, I just put on a "nameless" axle back muffler and dropped in a K&N air filter and called it good .......

Did it increase power ...... well, noooooo ....... but it sounds like it did ......

Headers and a tune are about the best mod you can do. Which headers will depend on your budget a bit. Personally I think the Tomei are the best low cost option, JDL the best mid upper and the Ptuning looks to be the best on the market at the moment. Opinions will vary tho. Decide if you prefer the UEL or EL sound then look at the shape of the torque curves on the dynos rather than the peak HP and make a decision.

After initially wanting headers I became turned off to them and decided to not get headers after:

Necessity to get a tune to see tangible gains
Catalytic converters - either have to remove all of them or get a high flow cat which leads to lots of noise and being out of compliance.
Cost - some headers cost quite a bit, you have to buy a tune, you should do the full exhaust for best gains which gets expensive.
Fitment issues - see lots of fitment issues, clearance, flanges, etc...
Quality issues - seen too many reports of cracked welds, poor collectors, etc...
Gains really not all that impressive after you see how much money you invest to get there.

This will probably be the saddest thing I've read on this forum today

The last time I had a turbo car, $1k got me accelerating like the Millenium Falcon

I have not seen a dyno yet that showed a full 30hp for OFT + OFH ONLY.

NA is like that.
Which turbo car? All of mine needed more than 1k due to getting rid of ceramic turbos, new ecu and tune..

Wasn't referring to aftermarket headers specifically, but the amount of money spent versus additional power achieved. Had an evo7 with budget brand turbo back + tune for just over a grand and gained crazy power.

But anyway yeah I do realise that's the nature of modding NA engines....
