I finally figured out why my car's dyno in the mid-range is so pathetic, my ptuning headers are leaking.

Quote:
In case it's not clearly defined, all 4 runner bridges where the collector meets the runners are leaking, as with the V-Band flange itself. This was discovered largely due to your complaint about the exhaust smell and we didn't find any residual exhaust leaks. Also, after 4 hours of trying on the dyno yesterday, I had yet to smell that and figured that the dyno fans was clearing out the odors. When we smoke tested the setup with a 3 PSI machine, all this was what we found.
I've got pictures showing smoke coming out of several different places in the headers. This can't be normal, right? What's my next step?

It's been a while, but heres an updated exhaust note video

Got a new track day mic setup...so thought I'd make a video.

Ptuning header coated and wrapped, Motiv overpipe coated and wrapped, HKS dual resonated front pipe, Perrin 2.5" resonated cat-back system.

Nothing is really over 6k RPM or WOT in this video...just everyday driving to show what it sounds like for those wondering.

stereo mic is located right next to the license plate, so there is a slight rattle every once in a while.

Just installed a Ptuning header I picked up used locally, and I'm getting a bit of an airy/fluttery/ticky type noise around 3k rpm on acceleration. Can't replicate it without load. It sounds like it's coming form the front of the car (though I know that can be tricky to judge).

The header was installed with new oem gaskets all around on cleaned mating surfaces, and everything was torqued to spec. The rest of the exhaust is stock.

Don't see an obvious leak (no soot). Is this normal for this header? Am I just hearing exhaust valves tick or something, or is it leaking somewhere?

May or may not be related. Not sure if PTuning had this issue. But my ace header between 2500-3000 made a weird noise. Turned out to be the underbody panel rubbing and the frequency at that rpm resonating through. Visually it looked like it had space but these motors move a lot under load. Could see rub marks on the header exactly where it was rubbing. Rubber mallet fixed that issue.

Man these guys are right down the road from me. I actually worked on an Evo they did and that thing was a beast. Looks like I'm saving up for this header and having them do the custom ecutek tune. I'm thinking if I do any exhaust at all other that that I'll do the hemholtz thermal r&d to keep sound down.

From what I hear, they may be building another batch in the future, if there is enough interest to make it cost effective. So I'd say the more support and commitments shown, the more likely it could happen!

We will actually be installing a PTUNING header on a customers car with a JRSC kit this week and doing a re-tune. Stay tuned for updates.
