Need help extracting drain plug...

so i bet everyone had this kind of situation before, stripped or rounded nuts or bolts. over the weekend I decided to do an oil change it was lil bit rounded to start with but i only had 12points 14mm for 1/2 drive so just said f@#k it and used it. welp it didn’t end well, i’ve ordered fumoto valve for future oil changes but for my stuck drain bolt should i pick up a 14mm 6 point socket or bolt extractor special tool? just trying to see what y’all can add or give me some tips.

First thing I would try is getting a 6pt and hammering it onto the bolt till it is fully seated. Don't jerk on the ratchet, just gradly increase pressure. That thing shouldn't be so tight that it won't come off that way. Your next bet is going to be a big set of vice grips. Good luck.

i'd go the bolt extractor route. usually the quickest.

but it won't get it to tighten back on...

If you can get a good grip, a big channel lock or vice grip might work. Otherwise, left-hand bolt extractor is the best

I had the same problem after "talented dealer technicians" performed oil changes for six years.
The solution was to gently tap a six point socket over the oil drain bolt and carefully use a long handle for more torque.
Use a new crush washer and use a torque wrench to replace it.

Bolt out/damaged bolt removers should do the trick if you’re ok with buying some new tools to add to your collection

Here ya go -

OR, Bubba suggests you take a cold chisel and a big fucking hammer and cut into and hammer on the side of the plug, in a counterclockwise direction, till it loosens up (since you ain't gonna use it no more anyway).

Everyone has good suggestions already.

Remove that splash panel if you haven't for more access. I'd use big vice grips first, then hammer on the 6 point with a long breaker bar. I personally haven't used those socket extractors yet but they look promising. I did try to use the drill bit extractors for smaller bolts but that didn't work.

picking up a 6point socket today and hope for the best, already tried huge channel lock for pluming but still couldn’t get it.. maybe vice grip is better after all

Yeah, think you're going to need something with more bite or longer handle like a breaker bar/extending ratchet for the torque since it's on there tight.

i have a 15in breaker bar but harbor freight opened up in local location so i’m picking up 25in breaker as well.👍

That should do it, gradually increase pressure. Watch the socket, if you see it start turning and the base of the bolt head isn't moving I would stop. Best to go to an extractor at that point.
