So here's how this is gonna go.
You're gonna EMT me the cost of the two filters. I'm going to go to a Toyota dealer and buy the Toyota filter. Then I'm going to buy the Subaru filter. I'll take photos and post them side by side (they're different). Then I'll cut them open with a slitting saw and show you where the real differences are. If I'm wrong, I'll EMT you your money back.
They're different, made in different factories.
Or you could take my work for it.
Or you could just look here. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135234
I'll buy you a near beer if we ever meet.

None of that has anything to do with the fact that they are indeed different filters. They're more different internally than externally.

The "difference" is meaningless.

i gotta ask: what non-Scion dealer doesn't want to deal with Scions, which are Toyotas. It's like if GMC didn't want to deal with Chevrolets anymore.

Ile-Perot, they keep telling me to go to other dealers, because "They don't have Scion information in their system".

I found this $91/12 = ~7.60/each so not a ton cheaper than the 3 pack but if you have the space and plan on keeping your car for another 90,000 miles...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-OEM...AAAOSwu***wZSg

The 6 pack is a few cents cheaper per chang:

Thanks but I was looking for something local, postage from the US to Australia is normally very high and negates any savings buying online or in bulk. 86MLR is in Australia too which is why I asked him.

cheers,

Currently they are pretty expensive

I just did a oil/filter change and only have 1 spare one left.

I need to pick some up, currently the cheapest is a 5 pack for $86 AUD, makes them $17 AUD each.

You are generous or just really trustworthy. I never pay until the job is completed to my satisfaction. Not to be confused with "I trust the shop to do a good job." Human error is inevitable (unless they are robots, then never mind).
