Just use KL's Superbird one and move it all the way back.

You can deduct the portion paid over the "fair market value" of the car. Not quite sure how you establish that on something like this, but I'm guessing there was a "sticker price" established for the car.

Actually, at least according this month's Road and Track print article, Toyota delayed their announcement as part of their agreement with BMW that the Z4 would get into production first. They have made some tweaks, but that really isn't the reason for the difference in release timing.

Someone who pays $2.1 million for a $50k car probably isn't worried about the taxes.

Donations in Canada must be claimed using an official a charitable donation receipt. As you said the maximum true value would be deducted from the total price paid and a receipt given for the rest. Would presume it would be about the same process there.

The buyer is an interesting businessman who came from humble beginnings, took risks and now owns a nationwide dealership chain.

From what I read, he's liquidating his collection of mostly classic American iron and moving into the megayacht building business.

https://johnstaluppi.com/john-staluppi-biography.html

The Supra auction donation is impressive although, with a net worth estimated at $400M, it represents 0.5% of his pile or less after tax deductions.

Still, great move for an entrepreneur enthusiast turned philanthropist.

Sale price definitely surprised me and most everyone. Think what it would've gone for with real vents.

Before the Supra sale, an interesting LFA Nurburgring Edition hammered down for over $800K, a huge increase over the last LFA NE that went for $325K a couple years ago.

If the supra came with a Manual and the taillights looked more like the last render shown on the white car and was for $45k I would get one. Hands down. Even with all the fake vents!

PS- This new B58 is closed deck, forged crankshaft, etc. It will hold power.
BMW told Toyota that they CAN'T release the Supra until the Z4 is introduced and then hold off for a few months until the Z4 hits the market first.

Think what it would have sold for if it had a MT and a true enthusiast bought it!

what's even more crazy is that the LFA couldn't even reach the 1mill mark. ($918.5k & $770k)

Don't think the were selling for a charity though were they? Basically the guy that bought the Supra donated $2.1M and as a result got a $60,000 car as a thanks.

That's the equivalent of donating $100 to your favorite charity and them giving you a tote bag worth $2.85 as a thank you (because percentages)

not sure, but even than cars like the ZR1 ($925k) and Shelby GT500 (1.1M) also came in about half of that.

I guess my point was, you can't really put any meaning behind these charity auction bids. They have zero meaning as to what the car is worth, and to some extent its "vanity charity" although I'm sure the persons giving the money are being sincerely generous. There isn't even really any coorelation between events as it just depends on who the current audience is or can be.

I liken it to the "dessert auction" we have at my church each year to raise money for our youth program. People bid stupid prices for cakes (anywhere from $100 to as much as $1000) made by the kids or their parents and we all have a good time. Now the $1000 bowl of homemade banana pudding was very good, but it probably didn't really cost that much.

Probably less than a Mk IV without the charity premium.
