Lexus didn't exist like it does now. Lexus provides that platform now.
Acutally I just re-read this bit just now.

If you look back into history, it was the Soarer for the first 3 generations that really showcased Toyota's newest tech (the Z40 doesn't really qualify imo, the powered hardtop was just a refined version of the old Aerocabin).

The Celica XX / Supra was never intended to be at that level but to be sold on handling prowess (Colin Chapman in Japan and Dan Gurney in the US did the ads for the 2nd gen). The cars from Lexus save for the LFA pretty much all existed decades prior to the re-branding in Japan. The LC500 is the 5th gen Soarer. This A90 is the 5th gen Supra.

Akio Toyoda already explained long ago that he really wants to bring back the Toyota from 1984 when he first joined the company. He pretty much kept his word and this is the result thus far.

VAG loves central and south america. I admit to not knowing where BMW builds their trash because I have even less interest in a BMW than I do a VW, and I'd barely even consider leasing a VW.

VAG also loves South Africa where they built the Mk1 Golf for way too long like the Nissan Sunny/Sentra.

If you buy a German made VAG product you will find a lot of parts manufactured elsewhere in Europe (I've seen parts from Spain, Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, Italy, etc) if not China these days. I've also seen aftermarket Bosch parts that only read Made in the EU (European Union).

I love it when I goto the Subaru parts counter and pretty much everything is Made in Japan. Toyota equivalent parts not so much.

I'm seeing 64K in Canada. The Supra will likely only be a bit less, if not the same.

This ^
As I said most of the parts made in the south are used for vehicles built nearby. With the rising economies in what used to be called the "third world" countries and massive increases in shipping costs there is not many parts that are shipped half the way around the glob just to build cars anymore. yes there are loads of plants world wide but they are mostly (there are exceptions) making parts for withing a few hundred miles.

Now... those parts made in the other countries are not necessarily junk anyway. Much of that thought is simply a bias from days gone by. Most of the plants making OEM parts are owned by the large Tier One companies and they need to meet all the exact same standards if they are made in the USA, Germany or China. This picture of a bunch of peasants hand building things in China is way off base. There are no corners cut just because of the location.

One example of one company and where things are made:

Blue = ZF sites
Red = ZF-TRW sites
Where do you think most of the parts for the German cars come from?

The S isn't the base model though.

I was only interested in the Base Cayman until this came along. I'm very curious as to CDN pricing.

Yea good stuff. It was definitely a platform—arguably maybe THE platform—for showcasing their luxury/performance tech. The Soarer was built on a second gen Supra then transformed into the Lexus SC 300/400 over time here, which didn’t have the same 2JZGTE as it did in Japan. At that time, was it much better equipped than the Supra in Japan? Was it luxury tech or performance tech or both? I don’t know.

I do remember how the preproduction Lexus LFA was speculated to be the next Supra. Lexus corrected branded it a Lexus and correctly didn’t brand it the next Supra because it was in a higher class (and price), but regardless, that was Toyota showcasing their best tech in a flagship performance car. And that was kinda my point, that the Lexus brand became the performance brand. TRD seems to do more offroading stuff for trucks and suvs, while the Lexus F brand became their performance flagships.

Am I missing something? This says US base price is 57K

https://www.porsche.com/usa/models/7...cayman-models/

Less HP, much less torque and a 4 banger for more money.

I will wait for the arrival of the Supra. I'm a few years out anyways.

to those that have never bought German cars before, the "base $57k" Cayman is stripped out model. it can easily hit $70k-$75k when you start building it with the stuff that you want.
