Wow, what a small world! Doug and I used to grab lunch after Caffeine & Octane (ATL's version of C&C) while he lived in Atlanta. This was years ago before he started his Jalopnik and Autotrader career.

Back on topic, beautiful Giulia! My friend is considering moving to one from a M3. Tough to find a dealer though...

I'm not a fan of many euro cars turbo exhaust note. They all have this measured pattery sound, I guess that's just the way turbocar valvetrains sound on modern cars producing that. But its all the same, just a sharp patter, with those dsg farts.

Yep, this is the test that everyone's been waiting for. Put the best each mfg can bring on the same track with one of the top test drivers in the world and let em rip.

What's amazing to me is that the M3, CTS, and MBZ have all had several iterations to raise and refine their performance yet the Guilia still smokes them all right out of the gate in her debut form. I can't imagine the performance of Guilia QV Mk.2,3, etc...

BTW Chuckwalla isn't the fastest track in the world. With the way the Guilia was putting down the power a run at Big Willow would see even bigger margins.

On another note, the Stelvio QV is going to be bonkers.

That's what I was thinking too. The segment was competitive to begin with - I didn't think it was possible to ascend to the top so quickly. Really impressive debut for the Giulia.

Seems to me this is more of a competitor to something like the ATS or 2 series because of it's size and weight. What they've essentially done is given a smaller car M3/M5/CTS-V levels of power and come out and spanked everyone. I really wish someone make something that does this to fat automobiles like the Mustang and Camaro.

Hmm I'm not sure what to make of that, since the ATS-V and Camaro are the same platform, and around the same weight - about 3800 lbs which ain't featherweight. M2 is the 'featherweight' at a bit over 3400 lbs. I don't really know how much this Alfa weighs but I'd imagine it's in the same ballpark as the Camaro and ATS-V - I keep seeing weight quotes for the Alfa around 3350 lbs which would be amazing, but I think that is 'dry weight' which is cheating

That said I love what Alfa has done, design, performance, luxury - how it holds up we'll have to see. I'd also agree with the sound assessment, sounds very tractor-like to me, not Italian exotic - but that's the deal with turbo V6's I guess. The new turbo V6 Ford GT sounds the same way.

I think the Guilia was initially quoted as 3350 dry Euro spec, 35xx wet Euro spec. For NA our crash standards put the U.S. Guilia above 36xx dry and 3749 wet which is about 100 lbs more than the M3 wet tested in the video. Granted the Giulia runs with 60 more HP and 40 more TQ than the M3 so that's kind of a wash.

Still, for a full luxury car that actually performs, feels, rides, and has all the tech of the Gulia QV (quiet/comfortable cruising, with a TTV6, adaptive aero, etc) this is still a spectacular weight given that everything else tested was slower around the track, and from other tests have been noted to be less comfortable than the Guilia as a GT.

Had my car weighed btw its 3700lbs with no gas in the I don't have carbon seats or carbon ceramics which probably shave a bit more weight off making it 3600lbs give or take.
