BRZ Fender Trim Wrap

So the black fender trims on the side vents of the BRZ started fading slightly to white (mostly on the side not pictured). Realizing it was only held on by 3M tape, I decided to try getting it in some carbon fiber wrap scraps I acquired.

Description of pictures:
1. How fender trim looked before
2. Tools used
3. Fender trim removed from car
4. Backside of removed fender trim
5. Cleaned fender trim area of tape residue
6. 3M taped fender trim area
7. Removing residue from fender trims (PITA)
8. Cleaned fender trims
9. Wrapped fender trims
10. Installed wrapped fender trims

Afterthought: Can't say it looks all that great, first attempt at wrapping as well. Still beats the whitening fade of the black plastic. Good thing now though it's easy to redo, as the wrap should prevent any residue clinging onto the trims.

Disclaimer: This is documentation of steps taken for what I did. No guarantee of any kind comes with this picture guide.

Looks good and probably helps to give more depth to the part. I felt that the stock "grill" looked so flat in real life. With that said though, it looked good in photos. I would need to see it in real life to make up my mind. But Either way it looks great and is a good idea.

Great idea. Thanks for the post. How hard would you say it was to get the pieces off and ready to wrap? Are there holes under the trim?

Very easy to get them off. The only problem I ran into getting them ready was during #7. The residue had an exceptional bond with the trim pieces, and I had to resort to basically melting it off with thinner. The stuff I used did not damage trim pieces itself, but it got a lil messy(sticky residue everywhere).

There are 3 circled small slots under the trim that the circled tabs go into. Pictures for reference.

Cool idea. I can't tell from the pic, but if the texture of the trim itself messes with laying down the vinyl, you could smooth it over with some bondo or the like. Or sand down the texture, but that would probably be a lot more work.

I think the stock black plastic looks dumb...might do something like this later on.

Nice, I was thinking of replacing the plastic piece with stainless or painted mesh...

Cool! Can't say I love the CF wrap but I'm glad I now know that those pieces are removable! I want to paint that center strake portion with chrome paint (just like the chrome fender trim but save myself $90) so that'll make it easier to mask. Maybe I can paint the plastic with gloss black paint so it won't fade over time.
